Lack of Trance/Progressive theme nights in Edmonton?

anyone else in etown wanna speak your opinions?.. we had huge turnouts at all the big trance events in the last 6 months but still i wonder if any of these people would come out to a trance/progressive themed night at some bar or pub, there are plently of house themed nights here and i hear of all these nights in Vancouver and calgary but never a mention of any nights in Edmonton, I have tried to promote a few nights already but it seems soo much harder if i don't get any support.. what do you guys think if i can get a night together?.. would anyone actually go?

Phil

You bet I would. I try to go to every big event and if there were more, I'd try to go to them too. I really wish we had an electronica radio station here but then again I guess edmonton doesn't really have the biggest electronic scene and there probably wouldn't be enough support. So it looks like more streaming trance off the net for now. Just my thoughts.

hey man, actually Edmonton has lots of electronic oriented radio shows, CJSR 88.5 is full of shows all across the week, also there is a pirate station 107.9 FM that plays trance all the time on friday nights and sat/sun.

Sweet, I will check that out. I think I may have heard some stuff off the 88.5 frequency before but the next day they weren't broadcasting any. A strictly electronic station that plays the good stuff 24 hours a day would be ideal.

It's a good idea

However it looks like United has taken some initiative and is getting some top of the line DJs to visit Etown.

I think once people start realizing that the music is actually decent, they will get out of the bandwagon hip-hop/r&b/sean paul and actually try something new...

OR not.

And we're in Alberta, where electronica is taboo.

not neccessarily, i work for united and although i think it is great that we're bringing in top of the line DJs, we are far from being one of the firsts., Nexus Tribe back in the day brought some kickass acts at their parties and at their freedom fridays clubnight at the New City Suburbs and they were the first to bring Tiesto to Edmonton!, back when Lush nightclub had their Turbo Saturdays, we got to see some fairly big names too. anyhow what my post is mainly about is not about the bringing of headliners, but about local djs playing the music...

I totally agree with this...it you be nice to start something up. From the people I have met and talked with...we have some awesome talent in the city.

I'll be in support of this 100%!!!

Don't hold your breath. September will see a brand new FRIDAY night featuring Trance, Prog, and House. Headliners ranging from Bad Boy Bill, Marco V, J00F, and many more TBA. Most likely we'll have 2 headliners a month and 2 nights featuring local DJ's. Cover will be cheap and drink specials will be vast. For now, grab your Oakey tickets... they'll be going up in price within a week or so. $25 tickets on sale at all locations starting tomorrow.

Love Poundin' Sensation

I'd definately go. I've been nearly every big headliner party so far this year.... I remember back in the day when Nexus was rocking..what happened to them anyways? I seem to be going to mostly United shows instead?

I think we'll gradually see interest growing in trance again locally, we certainly get enough people coming up to us on Saturday nights at the club to say that they love trance and don't hear enough of it, haven't heard it in years, etc.
