Playing out
So how many of us UK/Ireland TA's have played out/play out regularly?
I wanted to post it here because I'm not arsed about which yanks play out because they'll only turn it into a Tiesto/PVD flaming thread somehow.
.
I've been quite lucky because I've only been DJing less than a year and i'm playing at a student night every wednesday now. I've also been in a few competitions and won one so I know that all this experience has helped me for when I eventually (hopefully) play somewhere bigger.
So how about our other British TA's?
Ive played out several times, though not on a regular basis.
It's scary shit the first time!
i played out for the first time a couple of weeks back
6hr back 2 back with a uni mate whose played out a couple of times
house for the first 4 hours then onto some trance
i was shaking like a leaf for the first 15-30 mins but once you find you feet and bop to the tunes you get into the stride like you were if you were dj'ing in your room!
I think for dj's to continue progressing they need to play out at least once a month.
I've never, but i'd say my dj'ing peaked round about february this year when I did a quality mix. Since then my dj'ing has gone slowly downhill. It's just become so boring playing the same records in the same place with nobody to react to the tunes you play.

i played out a couple of times for the first time in the winter, xmas party and new year (although due to shit going wrong with doormen i only got to play about 25 mins on new year
), the experience was fantastic. i haven't been playing out regularly though, mainly due to me being lazy and not getting any demo's out
to be honest though, at the moment i wouldnt want to put a demo out (thats not to say that i would turn a gig down if someone asked!), i am just getting to grips with the old 3 deck technique so i want to get that down before i get any demos out... plus there isnt really that many techno events around where i am, which is really what i am interested in playing.
I play in a bar every couple of months and have played in a club once, i always find that if you get the first couple of mixes in alright you will be ok, BUT if you f*ck up you could be in for a rocky ride
It's all about confidence at the end of the day!!!!
