why does Sarah McLachlan get so many remixes?

dont get me wrong , i really like her as an artist but why do all the Djs/producers remix her stuff?

Posted by Az on Jun-11-2004 00:18:

because her stuff gets released on a label which also has a lot of dance music producers on it as well
easy money

Posted by The_One on Jun-11-2004 00:21:

Most of the remixes she gets are because both she and the remixers are affiliated with Nettwerk Records/Management.

Posted by Bernd_Gradish on Jun-11-2004 00:34:

I think also because her voice is so emotional Fits to electronic music.

maby she gives good head

i think she enjoys dance music, so likes her stuff to get remixed, i could be wrong. Her style seems to fit well, may as well do it if it works.

yea i think its the label thing, but I dont know. Quality of her remixes arent all that great tho. theres just alot of them. imo

Posted by idoru on Jun-11-2004 01:02:

Mostly it's the label thing. I think she might also like dance music a little bit. I know she hated Tisto's remix of Silence until she saw the crowd reaction to it.

Posted by extepan on Jun-11-2004 01:07:

maybe their label is willing to pay money to get lots of remixes? just like avex trax remixing ayumi hamasaki 2 or 3 years ago

Tiesto remix was the only one I can remember enjoying...

I mean... Whats a Tiesto?

Posted by torontotrance on Jun-11-2004 01:09:

It is just not her label, she knows that the remixes increase her bank account and b)gives her new fame in different genres and c)increase her original album sales and d)Nettwerk ain't stupid. She is smart, not bad for a 35 year old Canadian.

Posted by court-jester on Jun-11-2004 01:20:

another question , do artists have the right to refuse a certain remix to be released because lets say they do not like the way it was remixed?

Posted by sandstorm03 on Jun-11-2004 01:24:

the label chooses remixes...

i think a lot of it depends on the specific contract.

Posted by torontotrance on Jun-11-2004 01:26:

Depends on the clout of the artist, I mean Armin's mix of (title escapes me), the label pressed more and there was not a damn thing he could do about it. Carl Cox turns down tons of songs, heck he has remixes done and then they don't make the album. I mean I think Paul van Dyk could say what remixes he wanted (tho the label responsible for his output, he owns). It all depends on the contract you sign and the clout you have. Sasha turned down an xpander remix and told the label to fuck off and the wavy gravy remix comp was born. I think the bigger artist you are, the more clout you have. I mean I think Sarah Mclachlan has some say into the remixes that are done but I bet she leaves it to the management because she is making a boatload of money. I mean if my bank account grows because of remixes then I don't think that many people would stop. I mean I don't think Island (I think still with U2) would tell Bono that they were having this remix done and there was not a damn thing he could do about it, I mean U2 is probably one of the bigger selling bands on that label, if not the biggest. So I'm sure Bono would be asked, who do you want to remix because if a band is making you a ton of money, you are going to do everything you can to keep them.

Thought you might like to know that she started out in dance music. She sang with a group called Manufacture (1987)and her first single ( I think) was a 12" called Vox(1988). I think we still have both of those. She is one of my favorites.... Over the years her fan base has broadened a lot, but fyi, dance music is not a new genre for her.

It's the same reason why all Delerium tracks get remixed. Everyone remembers Silence and all producers know they will sell records purely for having a dance remix of a Delerium/Machlachlan track.

She has a great voice... I'd like to remix her too..

Posted by Ian on Jun-11-2004 13:17:

because her voice is 100x superior to Justine Suissa's meaning any track remixed properly will be a huge hit, properly sung too and the tracks are made to fit the vocals, not just vocals written for a track that's already been made, makes all the difference
