vinyl scratches

is there anything of home use one can use to help get scratches off a vinyl?

Windex maybe?

I've seen some 'scratch removers' online, but they're expensive. rather buy the record again.

You can actually get some out by spinning up the counter weight to max and running though it a few times. Dukes who posts on here found it out. Dunno if it was actually him who discovered it of some audiophile but it works.

Seriously it cuts out the shit in the groove.

I've done it to one of my fav tunes which I managed to scratch (pretty bad one too) using the pop up light. It workes fine now.

EDIT: I was bored so I did a diagram.

In actual fact it would be a bit more fucked (bent over, perhaps horizontal) but you get the idea.

When you put the rec through it'l hopefully either put it back to the side or pull it out. Most likely to the side actually. Rember unless you've actually scratched down the groove (hard to do) it'll be the tracks of the rec bent over the actual sound surface (which should be ok). Yeah your record may be more liable to skip (mine are fine) but atleast you can use it. Plus if you know it is just crank up the weight when you use it. Also rember the scratch will only be on a very small part of the record. So it should get through it fine.
