Is the United States becoming a Monarchy?
I'm starting to get a weird feeling our country is turning into a Republican monarchy:
- George I followed by his son George II
- Close family like ties with another monarchy (the Saudi Royal Family)
- Our leader dressing up in a military uniform
- A President who wields unlimited powers
- An executive branch that rejects other branches of the government from checks and balances.
- The mixing of religion with government
- Our President alludes to conversations with God. Just when you thought the divine right of a king was over.
- A weeklong funeral ceremony fit for a king
- And now theres a bill in congress to replace Andrew Jackson on the 20 with Reagan
eh, well the longest he can rule over us is 8 years. Plus there were about 8 years with clinton inbetween the bushes.
I guess it is more of rapid monarchies, which last either 4 or 8 years. then the new monarcher is in...hehe monarcher.
so get voting...for someone else.
awesome.
Long live the King!
You mean more like a dictatorship.

One can only pray that in November he is sent packing. If he is a king then he is a poor excuse for one, he does have the whole starting an agressive war thing down pat though, just like many of those old European monarchies
get used to it.
...bow before the devine right and kiss the ring.
rise as his humble servant. the almighty commands it.
BWWAAHAAHAHAAHA
Re: Is the United States becoming a Monarchy?
The points you make are nothing new, have happened before, and in many cases are even less of an issue as they were 25, 50, or 100 years ago. It's merely the way the nation and its political system operates.

WASHINGTON, June 9 In a move that critics say could lead to higher telephone rates, the Bush administration on Wednesday sided with the four regional Bell companies in a court case over the fees they charge their rivals for access to their networks. Mark Cooper, research director of the Consumer Federation of America, said that the elimination of the regulations could ultimately lead to higher rates for 19 million consumers who get phone service from competitors to the Bells and an additional 30 million who have discounts from the Bells in response to competition. The administration's announcement followed fierce lobbying and aggressive tactics; each side has raised millions of dollars in campaign contributions for the president and the Republican Party. Before the decision, rivals of the Bells said they had told the administration that if it did not side with them in the dispute they intended to run television advertisements in swing political states accusing the White House of being responsible for higher telephone rates. |

The point of my post wasnt to seriously argue whether we have become a monarchy, it was to point out how far we have moved away from the ideals this country was founded on in 1776. The pomp and ceremony of Reagans funeral, the arrogance and contempt our leaders have towards the rest of the world, the lack of respect for human rights, our willingness to use military power, and this administrations disregard for the Constitution.
DaveSZ, your right the corporations have a strangle hold on this country. Anyone who would care to stop and listen to Nader would know how much of our freedoms and rights are in their hands. I wish the public would wake up.

bush is no good
I don't think it's a monarchy or a dictatorship at all because about half the population genuinely supports the leader and he came to power and holds power because he was elected... sort of.
Presently the U.S. is a highly polarized republic, therefore whatever group is not in power will find the actions of the group that is incomprehensible. Unfortunately the vast majority of the leaders at both poles are little more than demagogues... which seems to be the natural result of a representative republic with a relatively uneducated and highly egocentric population.
Self-governance requires intelligence, poise, and determination. At this time, our society appears to be severely lacking on all counts... thus the system produces poor results. If good results are to be obtained, we must either change the system, or change the society. Neither will be easy.
