France x England (Group B, 13 June)

The big game from the first round is tomorrow already, with two of the title challengers.. i don't think predicting the result is possible, but i'd say france has a small advantage in theory.

- can't edit the other posts done before already to put the result in the thread title :\ -

It's very difficult to predict how this game will go, France are favourites but England are capable of beating them, yet both sides would take a draw.

I'll say 1-1.

One of the matches of the tournament apart from the final.

2-2

Posted by Lytchix on Jun-13-2004 07:07:

England has no defence and its goalkeeper is called Calamity James!

2-0 France

Posted by Freezel on Jun-13-2004 07:19:

I think 2-0 to France. Henry will be scoring them both Like Lytchix said, their defence is kinda weak

2-1 for France. 1st goal scored by Pires, after the break Scholes makes 1-1, but Zidane will make the 2-1

I keep seeing a draw...1-1 or 2-2. England are capable of beating them...I wouldn't get too cocky yet Frenchies.

Like lytchix said : no real english defence compared to France and especially France's forwards. Terry is missing in the English Team.

This Year Zidane is NOT missing in the team (conferring to 2002 when he was injured a few days before the CUP started) Pires is there too(he was even NOT in japan in 2002 because he was badly injured).

h-10 !!!

3-0 France

F. Barthez
W. Gallas
L. Thuram
M. Silvestre
B. Lizarazu
R. Pires
C. Makelele
P. Vieira
Z. Zidane
T. Henry
D. Trezeguet

Just look at the composition , how can we lose with so many strong players
And hmm, forgot barthezz I hope he won't play like a fool.(I have some memories of the last UEFA cup game)

3-2 for france

England should have a good defence. Our 4 best centre backs are all excellent: Terry, Ferdinand, Campbell, Woodgate. Woodgate, Ferdinand and Terry have all played well against Henry in the Premiership, while Campbell plays with him. Luckily for France and Henry, 3 of them are injured (!) so we must put our faith in an inexperienced young right-back in the heart of our defence.

Most of the French team play in England, we see them every week, we know what they are capable of and we know their weaknesses. Zidane and Trezeguet have apparently been on poor form for their clubs, whilst Pires will have to take on either Ashley Cole (his teammate at Arsenal) or Neville (who usually plays well against Pires for Man Utd). Henry will have to get past his Arsenal teammate Campbell, and Vieira will be battling with in-form Gerrard. King will be England's weakest link, but France have two old defenders in Lizarazu and Thuram which Owen could exploit, while Gallas, a centre back at Chelsea, could struggle at right back.

Zidane is the player I worry about because Gerrard might be too busy with Vieira/Makelele to pick him up, so we have to hope Scholes or Beckham come back sometimes and keep an eye on him. Hopefully Lampard can cause the French defence problems if he is given a bit of freedom.

Hopefully Barthez can get himself sent off

Can't wait for this game. The midfield battle is gonna be extremely interesting. Gerrard and Lampard have both been in scincillating (sp) this season and I'm sure they'll do well. We do have King replacing Terry in defence but I'm sure he'll do alright. He's partnered by Campbell who knows Henry better than any other defender in the world and when Arsenal and Tottenham played during the season King was not embarassed by any means. It's going to be a huge game though whatever!

Its fair enought that France has an excellent team but u always have to take into acount how well England do in the big games - Argentina WC 2002, Germany WCQ 2001, Holland Euro 96 etc

Its gona be 2-1 England

For France will be important so see, in which form will be Zidane after his last games for Real. Smells like a tie for me.
