it could be very cool if done properly. what about a kind of system where the users from the forum vote for their fav tracks monthly for the chart? i think it could work out right. just make sure that only the active forum users could vote on it to avoid the mass of newbies that only visit the frontpage bumping darude and dj sammy onto number 1

^ to avoid flaming, it's better not to organise monthly polls...

a system of nominations would just generate huge flames, but what about a system of 'searching for an existing track or adding it to the database' (dunno if you know what i'm talking about)

No offense, but this right here is the reason why I'm against the idea of having these charts, Paranoik0. In the end, it would just increase the almost unbearable elitism that we have here, as the amount of threads saying "Why are(n't) these tracks on the charts?" and flaming would be huge.

What would be the problem if Darude and DJ Sammy got the top position? Sincerely, I like Sandstorm ten times more than any tune I've ever heard from Sasha ("Xpander" included) and I'm far from being a noob (what the heck makes us think we're better than people with less/no posts anyway?), but it doesn't give me the right to "save the charts from the prog or massive" nor to define "what tunes would be qualified to enter the contest". Besides, it would eventually become a compilation of tunes from the famous DJ's (Tijs, Corsten, van Buuren, van Dyk,...)

If, and only if, the only tunes allowed were from the Amateur Producers forum, in order to give the producers some more visibility (including 30 second samples of their tunes), then I might support the idea.

i see what you mean, it's just that the stereotype of the people that visit the frontpage and not the forums usually just come to the singles download page and don't have much knowledge on music up to date, charts usually mean recent tracks. i'm not saying that "we're better than them", there are loads of people in these forums with musical tastes that i can't relate to neither

about the flaming, charts or no charts, we get flames anyway

but it still would be a nice feature to show what is more popular at the moment

Yeah im with paranoik0 the main point is to just get a feel of whats new at the moment and whats popular for those who don't get time to surf the forums, it doesn't necessarily need to be voted by people who come by the site. maybe just a few individuals can get together and organize these. suppose you could even do a commercial charts and club chart or something. If your doing a voting system doesn't need to be as big as the track of the year kinda thing.. something smaller scale, no matter what tracks are on the chart you'll always get people saying why isn't this here and why isn't this song here and wtf sif this song is number 1 but the essence of the idea is just to let people know whats new and popular at the moment
