Hi, you don't know me but I saw your post about 2 months ago regarding you going to the UK. Glad you're enjoying your time there. I'm coming to the UK in OCT-NOV. I wonder if there are any airshows between there? Oh well, I might have to wait for Avalon 2005.

I'd love to see a harrier take off/land *druels* lol. If you want to check out UK air shows check out This guy's site. He goes to nearly every show in the UK.

ive got coverage of it if u want..ill make snippets wen i get it edited ..
alot of commentary from myself also .."F*** man..look at that thing.. " hehehehhe

Harriers are cool - i still cant get over their reliablility even though they rotate their turbofan up to 70 degrees in take off.... (i think 70 - im operating from memory - its a bloody high number though!)...

Another pointless fact about the Harrier - the sea harrier (ie the version for use on aircraft carriers) is a third heavier then the land based harrier - any guesses why?

Greater range? Greater stablility on the carrier? Double Seat version? Larger wing spam? Different engines? (Did I forget anything possibly? :P)

What's the answer?

Soz wade - none of the above.....

Its to counter the extra fatigue that the aircraft experience due to continually being in motion (ie going up and down) on the carrier. The movement causes the wings to flex and suffer from fatigue, which land based harriers dont suffer from (to the same extent), thus they need the extra material, and thus the extra weight!

Lesson over for the day!!!

Isnt it great to know that after 3.5 years of studying aerospace engineering i know this sort of shit!! Its just got to increase your confidence in flying doesnt it??

Would you like me to start telling you some of the dodgy shit we get up to in aircraft now???

I remember something about MiG dogfights, can't find the link tho.

Yeah theres a MiG that flies out of Bankstown airport (ive seen it!) and does tourist flights.... cant remember what type of MiG it was though!

I think i should wait till after you get back from Europe before i say much more Wade, you might not get on to the plane to Europe if i do!!

Posted by A.J. on Jun-15-2004 12:06:

My mate went on that, the lucky bastard.

He works for Juice Media, a web design company, and they did the website for the jet-flying company. As well as getting paid for the job, him and his workmates got to fly in the jets FOR FREE!

MiG 25 is ringing a bell for me....How many plane freaks in here? (I went 2 the 2nd Glitch and spent all night watching a Falukins War doco, watching planes take off, land/bomb, formation fly etc. Amazing to watch!)

Posted by lethal on Jun-15-2004 12:54:

I was thinking MiG 15.... cause i remember it was only a single engine jet...

Edit: Yep it is a MiG 15! Just found the site.... http://www.aircombat.com.au/

Does this qualify me for being a jet nut (or does doing aerospace engineering do that!! )
