Lost a football game..... why not have a riot?

BBC LINK

quote:
Home Secretary David Blunkett, who was at the match, said afterwards: "Like every other supporter I am bitterly disappointed at tonight's result but I am also very proud of the good behaviour of the vast majority of England fans who are in Portugal to see the tournament."

Yeah it'll just be the over 400 people at home who just went out after the game into the street and started smashing stuff up that you'll perhaps not be "very proud of" then?

Posted by Arbiter on Jun-14-2004 18:36:

400 people is a very small minority - there are stupid people everywhere. I watched the game in a pub in London. Needless to say, there were plenty of upset people there, but they didn't feel the need to cause random destruction as a result of the outcome.

I think, though, that the true problem is that their peers make excuses for their "passionate" behavior rather than pointing out how senseless and stupid it is. If the sane majority would simply exert some peer pressure on these individuals to maintain a little poise, I think the problem would disappear.

Well lets put it this way yes it is a minority. But a 200 person riot (the one in brum) over a football game in your home town against your own police officers. And then the Home Secretary says "How proud he is" fair enough he was conviently talking about over there. But when exactly should you be pround that "Wow our lads are actting like human beings..... well done lads...."

That said it is progress.

well no wonder there was trouble in England, all the hooligans have been banned from trouble.

and i think he has got a right to be proud of the england in PORTUGAL, travelling england fans have a bad reputation and the fact that there was ZERO trouble in Lisborn last nite.

Posted by Dervish on Jun-14-2004 20:27:

But do you not think it's a pretty sad state of affairs though?

Posted by St_Andrew on Jun-14-2004 22:09:

400 is minority, but it's still alot of people. sad, but lol somehow i understand them, really annoying end

There was supposidly incidents all over England of 400 - 200 people kicking off, thing is you know its going to happen I went out to watch the game in pub and all hell broke out on the streets outside, I've been caught up in football violence before and to be honest its not a great thing at all.

If England win then there is usually no trouble if they lose there is always trouble its as simple as that, about two thirds of the people fighting aren't real hooligans there just wannabes or people who have had too much to drink and get a bit over leary. Everyone knows when there is no rival fans to fight they'll fight each other as simple as that.

I agree with the rioters completely.
There is no other course of action when facing defeat from the cheese-eating surrender-monkies.

Fortunately the USA is better than the French national team so I don't see any such incidents happening in America.

Fan of the simpons?

EDIT: Supose it's like fight club only with gangs instead of 1-on-1. You live a boring life (cleaning the toilets at the ball bearing factory or something). Football and being "engerlish" are the only things you got to make you feel self worth.

Then 90mins into the game getting one over the "frogs" (knowing that afterwards you can claim your gonna win it all). And boom you lose and being "engerlish" has recently lost it's shine. So you'll need to find someone (or something) in your own tribe to be better than or have power over..... lets fight and/or break shit!

"Yay I have power I broke that car me!!! I'm not powerless anymore and my boring life means something! I'm well ard' me!!!"

I'm being serious by the way they must have some reason for doing it.

Come on, admit it, you just wanted to have a go at the English cos your dead jealous Scotland are soooooooo shite!

Hmmmmm...no, I cant see that happening in America either (America winning that is, unless your talkin bout girls football)

Anyway, what the hell is an Israeli/American doing talking about the beautiful game?!?!?!?!?!

Women - know your place (yes you Yoepus)

I was in a packed pub during the england france game, when the final whistle blew it all kicked off, Tables, chairs glasses were being thrown by men & women. It all calmed down after about 10mins because there was no-one to fight with i guess.

But it shows violence and binge drinking is inbread in our society right to the core.

I was watching the game over the net and couldn't believe that England lost within that span of time, Becks is a major prettyboy wanker, how did he not convert that penalty against moonhead Barthez. I was rooting for England all the way and felt let down in their performance no way should they have lost that game much less 2 pts. A quality squad like England should have ensured that France got what they desereved in the match, France was dead most of the game until the last 5 minutes.

Atleast we know we are and don't start saying things like "Theres eleven hero's out there" and all that kinda shite before we've finnished a game.

Also our fans do things more like this

quote:
FIFA couldnt agree more and is proud to recognise the supporters of Celtic FC with the FIFA Fair Play Award 2003.

LINK

The only time is has ever been awarded to fans rather than a club.

Posted by George Smiley on Jun-17-2004 23:21:

Well its not as if any Scottish players were gonna be given any awards anytime soon!!!!

Come on Ingerrrrrrrland!!!!!

Back in the game!

Final: France 1 - 5 Ingerrrrrrland!!!

I'll have you know they have a wide and varied collection of wooden spoons!

Gotta say Roony did look good against the Swiss. I didn't think he'd end up doing so well, especially so early.

Posted by George Smiley on Jun-18-2004 10:17:

Yea could quite easily end up being player of the tournament (which is a shame cos I really really do not want a thick scouse thug as my idol!)
