Ironically enough, Middle Eastern people seem to be more civilized than the us

The media hasn't exactly been portraying them in a favorable light since 9/11, but ironically enough, people from the Middle East seem to be more civilized and courteous than the rest of us. What brought this on? The realization that the last three people that did some kind of a selfless good deed from me were all from there. Check this out:

1) I was walking towards the door at McDonalds with two trays full of coffee for my workers when some highschool kid actually got up from his seat all the way across the restaurant, walked over to the door and held it open for me, then went back to his seat.
2) I was buying a shawarma and when the time came to pay, the person making it informed me that their interac machine wasn't functioning that day. I told him that i'm gonna go get cash from an ATM nearby, but he insisted i take the food for free and wouldn't take no for an answer.
3) Same story in a coffee shop when i put my hand in my pocket and realized that i used the change for the parking meter. The girl just handed me the coffee for free.

I find new immigrants to Canada to be far more friendlier than most Torontonians. It stems from the fact that they probably come from a community based society as opposed to our "me first" society.

I agree but after a few years of being brainwashed by the "me first" mentality they'll become one of us. lol!!

Thats sadly the truth....

I think we really need to get back to whats important in our society. Family, friends, community and living life.

Not just go go go money money money me me me.

Money isn't the root of all evil, the lack of money is. Imagine the behavior of two people, one of whom is financially secure, and the other can't sleep at night because he doesn't know how he's going to pay next month's mortgage. Which one do you think will be friendlier towards others? I don't think being money-conscious doesn't make you a better or worse person since it has to do with ambition, not friendliness.

I see your point d!abolic but I think greed is the root of all evil. Doesn't matter a person has enough to pay the mortgage or not, they all still want more money. It will come down to the individual's personality on how they handle themselves.

I look at it like this..

If i had the chance to make 100,000 for example but it stressed me out to make it and i didnt have time for friends, family or to enjoy life it wouldnt be worth it.

Id rather make let's say 75,000, have less but enjoy what i have more including the people around me as well as my health and my youth.

Sadly most people here choose option #1 while most people overseas choose option #2.

Nah, I wouldn't agree a whole lot. I'm russian as you can see by the flag and I can flat out tell you that the amount of new russian immigrants that qualify for the category of "Scum-bags" is enourmous. In no way shape or form are they comparable to an average citizen of Toronto. From what I hear, the society rudness level in Russia is not even comparable to what is here, so its probably an explanation to my "scum-bad" remark.

I can be critical of several other large-scale nationalities, many of whose immigrants also contribute heavily to the "scum-bag" pile.

One of my good friends is a palestinian. Very friendly and giving guy.

A lot of them I have noticed are generally ok around Canadians but almost become red in the face with anger when you mention Americans or Jews.

What I did like about him is that he was very religious and had strong political views, but made no attempt to force any of
them on me.

Cool guy to hang out with, unfortunately his religious views forbade him from going out drinking, dancing, or trying to pick up chicks.

While I don't condone the terrorist acts, nor does he, it does make you think about the general propoganda about them.

Not be to picky but the actual quote is, "[The] love of money...".

But I certainly agree with yea!!!!
No money sucks and you really can't help others if you can barely help yourself...

That's unrealistic. How about we switch 100,000 to 500,000 and 75,000 to 50,000? There, NOW choose And keep in mind that while initially, the first person will have much less time than the second, that reality will one day be reversed.
