college dilemma

there will be no room in my dorm for decks come the fall, but i still want to be able to mix, or something close to it.

i've heard of final scratch, are there any other computer programs out there?

FS requires turntables to work. It basically just hooks your turntables into software, then plays special records so that your touches/pitch changes on the vinyl are replicated digitally on the track, playing off a HD.

i brought my tables to my dorm
i had a small room and they fit in there jsut fine
you just gotta be a little smart with your setup
it was fun to have mix sessions blaring down the hall
just make sure your roomate is cool and keep the door locked

dude, put your decks on your bed to mix, for sleeping, keep them under it, but you must keep mixing! i don't have a setup atm, and a friend lent me his for a week once, i crammed it onto a small ass space, was even mixing battle style, but at least i could go at it.

i fit them in my dorm... but i also had no computer at the time... might i mention i had 15" cabinets as well

i'll see what i can do i s'pose.

i certainly won't bring them down on move-in day, but maybe after the first break i will.

thanks for the help.

dude, bring them in moving day anyways. That way you have to fit them in somewhere.

I woudl suggest building a loft for your dorm, that way you free up a ton o room belwo your beds.

we placed our loft on top of the two dressers, so it freed up the room of the two dressers, and gave us space for a couch below it. You should look into it.

Even better is this setup I saw - the guy took the matress off his bed and put it underneath (beds were a few feet off the ground) which left a flat surface on the top of the bed. He put his tables and mixer there, and just slept underneath.

i'm guessing he didn't get much play

factor in that you'll be hammered a good amount of the time.

put em somewhere safe.

Yeah, you just have to get creative, if it means playing carpenter for a day and building some nifty desk/table, then so be it. One thing's for sure, there's no way I would go off to college without my tables.

yeah if you bring them moving day, your gonna have to force your roomate to deal with the fact that you have them

my roomate and i both lofted our beds into a sort of L in the corner of our room. under both of our beads was our desks which had our computers and our dressers. the dressers and the desks supported our beds. after this lofting of beds we had so much room. i then used part of my desk and the corner of my room and i made a half table on which i placed my decks. then there was a shelf on the wall which i used to put my monitor. under that shelf we put our fridge.
after all this we still had alot of space in our room left. so we also stole a couch from the lobby and a coffee table which we put in our room.
it was such a great place to hang out. my one friend from down the hall and I would have endless spin sessions while poeple would chill in our room and drink and hang out on our couch.
we also had two keggers in there which were alot of fun
ahhh i miss those days
i relaly wish i had a pic of my room. i was quite proud of my setup

so montie, how about you fly out to illinois and help me with a setup around august 19th?

Posted by Electronicapo1 on Jun-18-2004 07:44:

Montie that sounds really cool... man I hope college is that fun, and if its not it will be your fault for raising my expectations.

college is all what you make of it. i had a blast freshman year. especially first semester. i think i was either drunk or high for the first 3 weeks.
funny thing is, i did great in my classes first semester when i partied the hardest. then second semester i really cut back and started to settle in and i did really bad in my classes.
the dorms were alot of fun. i made alot of great friends there and we did lots of crazy stuff. but after a year i was very ready to get out and have my own space.

trust me - if you love to mix enough, you will find a way to fit it
