what does it take to put greece out?!?!

this requires 3 things to happen...

1. greece have to loose
2. spain have to loose but score 2 more goals than greece do in their match
3. and portugal score only one more in their victory over spain

complicated enough for you?

In other words, Greece are in the last 8.

haha in other words. Greece suck

To make it easier to understand, these results would put Greece out:

Russia 1 - 0 Greece
(Greece finish with 4pts, an equal goal difference with 3 goals to their name)

Spain 2 - 3 Portugal
(Spain also finish with 4pts and an equal goal difference but with 4 goals to their name).

What would happen if Russia won 1-0 but Portugal won 2-1? Spain and Greece would have same points, same goal difference, and same goals scored, plus they drew against each other. How would they decide who takes second place?

goals against would be the next logical one. i think thats what they would do. otherwise it would be who scored first in the match against each other.

the team forgetting to turn up for the manditory doping tests, after all if they had taken any the ban would be less than not turning up for the tests

uefa team coeeficients...

so spain would amke it thru ahead of greece... provided they have the identical goals scored-against

if im not wrong it goes like this:

1. points
2. head to head game
3. goal difference
4. goals scored
5. uefa coefficients
6. fair play rankings (doesnt apply this year since all groups have teams with different uefa coefficients)

now is that complicated enough?

Posted by nettwerk on Jun-18-2004 19:59:

quote:
(a) Greater number of points obtained in the matches between the teams in question.

(b) Goal difference resulting from the matches between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal).

(c) Greater number of goals scored in the matches between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal).

(d) Goal difference in all the group matches.

(e) Greater number of goals scored in all the group matches.

(f) Coefficient of points from the last two qualifying competitions for the final rounds of the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004 (points gained and divided by the number of matches played).

(g) Fair Play conduct of the teams (final tournament).

(h) A drawing of lots by the Organising Committee.

There is no need to apply criteria (g) & (h) at this year's championship because the only teams with equal coefficient under criteria (f) are teams of England, Italy & Spain (ranked 5.) and then Denmark & Russia (ranked 11.) who were drawn into different groups anyway.
