Sasha Mixing on CPU & ditching prog :P

for all u sasha whores

DJ Sasha dismissed reports on the web this week that he been angry when a record he ripped off the decks struck a girl in the face, telling Skrufff that hed actually been larking around, when a dirty record got stuck in its groove.

I was two thirds into my set, the place was going off and I was enjoying myself when the record started jumping, said Sasha.

By the third time it happened, the whole crowd was cheering and I ripped it off and threw it up in the air in an overly theatrical way, certainly not in frustration. I was just being a bit silly and theatrical and I guess the record boomeranged onto something and hit this poor girl on the head.

The incident happened at Cardiffs Time Flies event, and effectively finished the party there and then, though Sasha was also keen to refute allegations that hed been subsequently manhandled from the decks by bouncers.

Her boyfriend grabbed hold of me, thinking that Id thrown a glass at her or something and took me backstage and I went into this room with him to see this poor girl there with blood all over her face, he continued.

After Id seen that I was freaked out, I didnt know how the girl was and I didnt want her to think I didnt give a fuck (care-slang ed), by going back on and playing. I was flipped out by the whole thing.

Sasha said hes since been in contact with the girl whos now fully recovered and will be entertaining her and her boyfriend at his next Fabric gig in July. Coincidentally hell also have ditched using vinyl altogether by then as well as much of the music he used to play, he said.

In about three weeks time Im ditching vinyl and CDs to go out on the road using my computer and thats going to allow me to mix anything with everything, said Sasha.

Im now actively distancing myself from that progressive sound that was previously attached to me, because it really doesnt hold much interest for me anymore, he revealed.

I think its time to move on, maybe Im looking back to 85 instead of 95. He added.

looks liek paul started a new revolution.

He is so fucking ahead of his time. Think Airdrawndagger was made over a period of 8 years. That means he started in around 96'! That was an amazing album ... and to think he was in that frame of mind in 1996 blows my mind!

what u talking about? I have been using Final Scratch even since when it first came out...

well ADD was awesome but its not like sasha was the only mastermind of that album.. it was produced together with Junkie XL, James Holden, Charlie May and Junkie XL mixed & engineered all tracks.. his Xpander EP was produced with Charlie May and Duncan Forbes aka Spooky.. and yes it took a looong time to complete it but i kinda thought it wasnt AS GOOD for something that took that long to make..

ohmna was soley produced by sasha and will continie to be my favorite sasha track.

i wish he wouldn't ditch vinyl call me a purist but final scratch aint all that imo. It was skipping a lot for hawtin when i saw him and pvd has gottena lot worse since he started using it.

I'm kinda glad sasha is ditching the prog sound, prog these days has really fallen off. Sasha is a dj not a producer, the man needs to stop partying so much and learn how to mix and engineer tracks himself.

and if the trend was started lee it was started by hawtin and aquaviva not paul van dull.

yeah pvd just jumped on the bandwagon like all you pvd whores..lol and yes pvd DEFINITELY lost that touch after he went with FS. kinda sad really..

Posted by sandstorm03 on Jun-17-2004 19:47:

maby, but people are not going to look back and say they started using FS because of hawtin.

im sayin, pvd jumped on hawtin's bandwagon by going with FS Lee.. but was far better before that..

so everybody will say they started using FS cuz of pvd ? not really.. maybe the pvd fans might..

Posted by sandstorm03 on Jun-17-2004 19:54:

aa ok,

IMO more people are going to use FS because Paul & Sasha use it, not because Hawtin did. Am i wrong?

Posted by Greedy on Jun-17-2004 19:59:

where is this goin?? who the fug cares?

youre not wrong, im just sayin hawtin was the one that first fucked with it... one thing good about FS is that it saves space.. so overseas gigs it comes in handy.. like, if i had a local gig spinning for like 2-3hrs, i wouldt use FS, i'd just take my vinyl.. if i had like a gig in a different state booked for 8hrs i'd take FS.

Posted by sandstorm03 on Jun-17-2004 20:01:

after spinning vinyl for 12 years im sure you would bring a cpu everywhere, at least i would.

Posted by Greedy on Jun-17-2004 20:03:

that is true, but i dont think pvd carries his music everywhere does he? He prolly has some PR bitch doin it for him.

Posted by sandstorm03 on Jun-17-2004 20:04:

as im sure a lot of djs do, but 6-8 hours of vinyl is a shitload

paul still plays cd-r and vinyl though...his mayday set was 100% cd-r

yeah like i said, for short sets that dont require a shitload of music to choose from, FS isnt really needed.

Posted by Choobak on Jun-17-2004 20:38:

wait.. paul didn't revolutionize anything...

the article says sasha's gonna ditch everything but his computer.. doesn't say he's using finalscratch. sounds like he's going the gabriel and dresden route and doing everything on his laptop. i remember seeing josh gabriel "dj". i didn't once see him beatmatch anything, all he did was click something on his laptop and play with the eqs. i don't know about this. seems like anything that makes djing to easy starts to take the magic and charm out of it all. it ends up making for bland sets. now if sasha uses it to do things resembling live production and djing, then that might be really interesting...
