Bt?

Is this artist any good? I heard Dreaming, and it's OK...

Posted by T-1000 on Jun-18-2004 06:24:

I like a couple of tracks by him

Yep, listen to Godspeed and Mercury and Solace, they are both very good tracks.

btw, the topics you make amuse me

His first three albums (IMA, ESCM and Movement In Still Life) are all very good with at least 2-3 true classics on each of them. Get em all.

One of my favourite artists, he has been around for a long time and he's done a lot in his time.

Some tracks that i really like are:

BT - Flaming June (Paul Van DYk Mix)
BT - Force Of Gravity (Original/Al Azar Mix)
BT - Godspeed
BT - Mercury & Solace
BT - Remember - nice vocals from Jan Johnston
The Roots & BT - Tao Of The Machine
BT & Tsnunami One - Hip Hop Phenomenon
BT & Hybrid - Running Down The Way Up

The last few are breaks tracks.....

Which one is a good "get-into"?

All of em I guess. Personally I started off with Movement In Still Life, but that was just because I came across that album first.

I don't like him at all really...

Posted by Electronicapo1 on Jun-18-2004 07:37:

BT is good stuff... I actually really liked Emotional Technology, tho it seems like alot of people didnt enjoy that album. Only thing is some of the people he collabs on for vocals will make you cringe.

Posted by ga11agher on Jun-18-2004 09:13:

yep - lots of people really trash him on these boards - but his earlier stuff is perhaps some of the best examples of trance as it should be. Had a change of direction somewhat of late - but then everyones gotta move on at some point!

Posted by Gladius on Jun-18-2004 09:55:

He's just a very versatile person (I think), who experiments a lot. As for me, I like some of his stuff. My favorites are flaming june ofcourse, and (weird that this one is almost never mentioned on the boards) lullaby for gaia.

Posted by Zombie0729 on Jun-18-2004 09:55:

he is the man who found Jan Johnston... of course we like him

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Jun-18-2004 14:10:

Technically he is lightyears ahead of 90% of other EDM producers...

If you're expecting to hear all trance from him, though, you'll be mistaken.

Posted by sandstorm03 on Jun-18-2004 14:11:

i question his vocals

Posted by sleepydragon on Jun-18-2004 15:15:

i like the older tunes but i dont like any of the new stuff

Posted by eulerfx on Jun-18-2004 16:33:

I think BT is one of the best producers. He is far more musically apt then most others, if not all other edm producers.

He only has a few trance tracks, but listen to ESCM and you will love it. It has great dnb and breaks tracks, that put me in a trance at least...

But yeah his 'trance' classics are:

Dreaming
Godspeed
Flaming June
Mercury & Solace

and each of those tracks is superb, and I can't decide which I like more.

He's a really mixed bag. His very beginning stuff is bland (but then it was a long time ago, so hey). He's released a couple of my favorites that I'll never stop listening to (Dreaming, Mercury & Solace), he has a few off the wall songs that are nice (Somnambulist, Godspeed), and then his new track with Beber & Tamra is amazing.

Often times I think his creativity goes to waste, as he just tweaks a song out too much, but some of his stuff is the best.

BT is very good.

Posted by tranceaddikt143 on Jun-19-2004 05:44:

flaming june

Posted by rudeboy69 on Jun-19-2004 09:32:

bt is freaking genius

Posted by GrimReaper on Jun-19-2004 10:34:

Agreed with many here.. he's technically pretty much of a perfect producer even if he hasn't made that many trancers among all the house and breaks tracks. Quality of the overall productions is always good and he seems to dare to experiment alot of different things of which some have been good or amazing and some not.

ESCM (full of emotions, moody trance like Flaming June, breaks [UK Edition has the amazing breaks track The Road To Lostwithiel instead of a fav of many, Lullaby For Gaia] and others) is the album i play most but also Ima (more on the housy and experimental territory) and Movement In Still Life (lot of breaks with some great trancers) get their plays in my CD player.. Emotional Technology still grows on me and gets better by every listen IMO. It is also very different everyone expected it to be but that's just one of his experiments again, to explore new styles and mix pop & rock with electronica what he usually does so well.

too many people bash him for his current music when they know f*ck all apart from flaming june about his music from the period when he was producing some real classics.

as far as albums go, IMA is ambient stuff and is ok. i really liked ESCM which had similar feel to IMA but did it better and MISL sees him throw in a couple of songs which are closer to the pop sound of emotional technology - but also has some trance tunes. here are some trancey tunes by him that havent been mentioned. Not all of them made it into an album either, or if they did it was into a special edition of MISL or a compilation of his tunes like BT - R&R;

bt ft. tori amos - blue skies (pvd blauer himmel mix)
bt & pvd - namistai
libra pres. taylor - calling your name
bt - shame (orig/way out west remix)
bt - running down the way up
bt - firewater
bt - content
bt - nectar

also check out
bt - love peace and grease (bt's puma fila 7" edit) - breaks!
bt - smartbomb - ?
