Starting n finishing a tune

I was wondering if people in who post here like to start and finish a tune before starting another or work on many tunes at the same time(over the same time period).

I finish a tune if all my ideas gets right on, and I am not stuck with the tune I am doing, if I am stuck, I save the project and start a new one, and look at the "stuck" project some other time

Depends on how good the track is

I have so many unfinished tracks on my HD that i'm going to have to delete some of them soon to save space

It'd be a miracle if I ever got to finish a tune these days... I think I have 4 originals, 1 collab and a couple of remixes to do right now.... they always start promising and somewhere along the way I just run out of ideas.

There was a time when I could do a tune from start to finish in 3 days... now it takes weeks.

Yeah same here , in my impulse tracker days (still using it though for hiphop ) I could finish tracks in a couple of hours but now after i started using reason it takes alot of time to finish a track.

Aren't you signed tho mr mystery? I tottally understand what you mean though, it used to take me no time at all then it got gradually more till your taking months, now its getting better again tho(like 1 month now although it could be longer). I think its when you decide you want to make things of a pro standard, and when you know its almost or just attainable to do so it starts to take a lot longer. When something isnt quite right on a tune ill spend days on it and sometimes never get what i want. I have to say for me, by having such high standards it has made production less fun but i am getting better and production is becoming easier so it is becoming more enjoyable again. A rough patch tho full of frustration which i hope im coming to the end of. Fuck knows!

Well yeah, that's the other thing. Right now I feel that I don't want to "disappoint" with my next tune and therefore I seem to have set the bar insanely high. I now trash tracks I would had been perfectly happy with 6 months ago.

Thats really harsh, im not ready to be signed yet, ill know when n if i ever am. This is pretty wrong but i did coke while doing production before and it seemed to help loads, gives you the confidence and urge to really get stuck into a tune. I think half the time its a focus and confidence thing when things arent going well. When im not sure with something i often listen to it over and over and im sure that doesnt help. Best thing to do is just get on with the rest of a tune and comeback to it any parts your not sure about later when youve got 'fresh' ears.
