WTF happened to Oakenfold?

I personally hated Bunkka. Southern Sun was great...but where did his trance style go? Hes making all this new weird lame shit. I hope Im not the only one that hated the Swordfish soundtrack.

And where did the fukker go? I havent seen his name on any flyers in forever. Ive heard alot of his music on Volvo commercials and other COMMERCIAL interests...do you think he sold out?

He used to have some wicked tracks back in the day...I hope he returns with his GOOD music and not this Bunkka shit.

What do you all think?

I liked Bunnka and the Swordfish sountrack. Oakenfold isn't the best producer, but I still liked the music. I don't really care that he did Goa at first, then melodic trance, then a mix of DnB and breaks and trance, and now this more mainstream stuff. I just listen to what I like...

I like that he changes style a bit. I don't know any other DJ that mixes so many different styles into one set, so that its not all the same. I dunno if you can expect any different, his background is not purely trance and he is a person of music, not just edm.

Though I really don't know what happened to him. He does have tour dates in the US I think, though none in my area, otherwise I would definatly go. Haven't seen him in two years.

I dont like his commercial interests too. Hes more a commercial DJ nowadays than a progressive DJ

But I think his radio shows are still great!!!

do you honestly think that you just posted the first what happened to oakenfold thread?

I think he just got old. Remember his well into his 40's...

Posted by A.J. on Jun-18-2004 17:03:

I'm pretty sure Oakenfold achieved all that he possibly could in the trance world - it wouldn't be the way it is today without him.

You can't go making the same type of music and playing the same music forever. It seems like Oakenfold evolved and moved on (for better or for worse).

Posted by Proximus on Jun-18-2004 17:10:

he made a track which is going to be featured in the soundtrack of shrek 2.

he is going for the more commercial areas of music yes, but who can blame him? he is making good music whilst making good money out of it as well, I adored Oakenfold and will continue to do it, for what he is doing and what he has done. =)

he got a new 80s style haircut didnt he?

Posted by Dojomaster26 on Jun-18-2004 18:04:

It says in Mixmag that Oakie's new album (due this year) will have more "rock influences" . I doubt we'll ever see the old Oakie style return...

Posted by sandstorm03 on Jun-18-2004 18:05:

which is that, goa or trance?

Damn I didnt know he was that old

I see everyones points. It just sucks for me personally. I just got into the scene in 1999...so I got a taste of some of his greatest work and then he leaves.

If he moved on...thats cool...more love for Tiesto and Van Dyk

Age has nothing to do with talent and music producing abilities, we all know that. Yes, drug/alcohol addictions can take away a great deal of that but I don't think that's the case with Oakenfold.

He is talented and he will remain. I like Bunkka, I feel it's diverse and is really nice

WORD UP!

"oh my god, what happened to oakenfold everyone?? he's gone COMMERCIAL!!! *GASP* now our music won't be underground and special"

just saw him at space 2 weekends ago....unfuckingbelievable. he is the man.

My take on all of this....

I don't think he could stick with the same emd style forever, he needed to take his music in another direction. He is trying out new things, which to me is fine. It is a logical thing for a musician to do. I see Bunka as an experiment for him, that didn't go extremely well, but it wasn't horrible or anything, it could have been worse.

Oakenfold is in Toronto June 30th.... I am not going though, he disapointed me the last few times.

It's a shame that he's changing, I hate that atmosphere of change, not the same anymore, that's too bad

P.S. When the fuck did Paul Oakenfold spin GOA?

U going for some kind of record ?

don't bother, infinity and lynx did that years ago

there is no need to reply to every single thread in MD with half lame posts.

u wont get custom status any sooner as u have to be registered for at least 6 months

You will however succed in pissing off TA members if u carry on like this

Posted by isoterra on Jun-20-2004 20:26:

Once you've been here 6 months, how many posts does it take in order to get a custom status, out of interest? Not that I'm desperate for one or anything
