RIP Paul Johnson.

even though i'm not justyfing their actions, and agree that this is a disgusting act, the Western World really needs to get the fuck out of Iraq.

Posted by starsearcher on Jun-18-2004 19:03:

Not Paul Johnson, the guy who made those cheesey dance songs in the late 90s?!

"down down down down"

(I'm being brutally insensitive, and I'm sorry.)

These people are executed in the name of God (Allah). In the video of the last one that is what they were all chanting while they cut off his head.

This being the second time this has happened the world seems fairly apathetic and even more so in the mid-east.

I wonder how the world would react if a bunch of radical catholics went around cutting off innocent people's heads in the name of Jesus?.....

(And before someone goes off on a tirade about how the church did similar things 100s of years ago - grow up. We're in mondern history now, it's time to move on, the world knows better now, the world has learned the lessons of the past)

So what are you trying to insinuate, that all middle-eastern zealots are crazed beheaders? The actions of a crazed few should never condemn the majority of a religion. Its not what their about, so dont confuse it.

I'm not insinuating anything at all, I simply stated a fact the radical islamists who are beheading these innocents are doing it in the name of God.

I am not making any broad based generalization or condemnation of any religion. I think you need to re-read my post.

I am simply surprised with the global apathy towards this.

Posted by Rodrico on Jun-19-2004 04:55:

But this was also an act of al-Qaeda terrorist trying to use the hostage as a bargain chip for the release of other al-Qaeda members in prison. I dont see this as some sort of God thing only, secondly the only reason for "global apathy" because if were gonna shit our pants everytime they do this, then its no wonder theyre gonna keep on doing this. No one likes it and no one is saying its ok, but thats the shit that comes with being an American on foreign Middle Eastern soil, and Saudi Arabia is a very dangerous place to live if you are not native to the lands (whether your an ally or not). Personally I didnt even care too much for the Nick Berg incident, people who get shocked are too sensitive to see the real shit that goes on in this world.

I believe that apathy is the lack of thereof.

that's actually what i was thinking- paul johnson? poor guy had to have his leg amputated back in the fall due to health problems.

but w/ regards to the beheading- it's tremendously sad that these things are happening...it's really horrible.

i fail to understand that a God would want u to do such deeds.

what kind of God would ask to viciously decapitate a flesh and blood like you.

wouldn't they feel discusted when they listen to the sounds he makes when he's dying? doesn't that at least give them chills? i fail to understand their psyche.

I lived in Saudi Arabia for the first 10 years of my life. I knew they were bad and my parents always told me everything so i wasn't shielded as many other children. They weren't that bad back then. now it's just too much.

It really has nothing to do with what a God wants. Humans are very creative, they can use religion to try and justify just about anything. They simply interpret their religious scriptures in a way that suits their needs.

This isn't a new phenomina, look back to the crusades, the spanish inquisition or even the colonization of North America. (I knew my history degree would come in handy eventually )Some people use their religion as an excuse to be extremely shitty to eachother, it is not that hard to understand. All you have to do is ignore those pesky passages that tell you it is wrong to kill.

Just drop the Bomb already! lol

Posted by starsearcher on Jun-19-2004 18:34:

Like Ed the Sock once said..."There were more poeple killed in the name of god than anything else throughout history". Fortunately MOST of us in the western world grew out of that mentality...and i'm not saying that people in the middle east are ages behind us...but there's a reason these people are called "fundamentalist". Most of them are brainwashed with a bunch of crap anyways...They listen to some guys' preaching all day long and that's where they learn from...I have a guy at work who all day listens to some preaching while i listen to trance Who knows maybe he's being brainwashed too...a "sleeper" planning an attack?

Can we all stop this politcal BS, GODS Sake, this a mans life, his head was sawed of

R.I.P

Yeah he's right...

Posted by Cyrus King on Jun-20-2004 07:44:

The actions of these barbaric people are beyond disgusting.

However, these actions are no different to the public be-headings that Saudi Arabia officially utlizes when punishing criminals. The society is desensitized to this form of punishment, so its undurprising radical religios use the same method

Johnson was an engineer who worked for a not so respected company in the middle east - Lockheed Martin. The implications of this beheading illustrate a growing distaste to American corporate military interests in Saudi arabia.

I completely disagree. Those people would have done that to any american regardless of who he was working for. The only thing that would stop them from doing this to an american aid worker would be the international backlash. They don't care, they are brainwashed to kill the "infidels". That means any caucasian man, woman or child. These people are just like us 300 years ago. The problem is they do not know anything else so they do not want to change.
