Which deejay do you think has contributed most to the global EDM scene?

I mean for bringing the scene itself to vision, not talking about the production of music or deejaying technique.

If you picked other, please specify who.

Hum thats a hard decision! I would say oakenfold because everyone knew about him first but i dont' think he made it what it is today i would say mauro piccotto or tiesto probably, just cause they are such big names ??? i vote tiesto

Posted by Orko on Jun-18-2004 21:44:

Tiesto?! what the hell are you people smoking!?

sure he is great...but he just doesnt have the history to be considered a major trend setter.

If you didnt already know...Oakenfold helped to name Tiesto as a big up and comer, which means he was discovered, he didnt make his own way.

Has to be Oakey. He has worked with some of the biggest stars in the world to help bring EDM to the forefront, to where it is today.

EDM producers are now even being asked to help do movie scores, which ofcourse Oakey help start.

No problems with the others, Picotto, PVD, Sasha and diggers, they all deserve their place.

err... Frankie Knuckles... Frankie Bones.

Posted by SKELETOR on Jun-18-2004 21:58:

can't forget about Dr. Motte who created the love parade.

Posted by E2EK1EL on Jun-18-2004 21:59:

I voted Okaenfold.

I go with mauro...he sucked everyone in as the lizard man, and appealed to everyone in EDM back in da day...and now he's off with his crazy techno SHIAT!!! i like his new stuff, but i'd love to hear another song by him like komodo, proximus, iguana etc...

Posted by StereoPrincess on Jun-18-2004 22:18:

I voted for S&D.

It was a toss up between that and PVD.

I find that S&D have changed with the scene and are always bringing in new elements. Like what Sasha is doing with Involver. That is some wikkid shit. And Sasha also brought us Zabiela which he recognized had something to offer the world.

PVD, was my other choice for the same reason and also for his unique style that no one can match.

Posted by wesjor on Jun-18-2004 22:21:

I said Tiesto, just because his name is thrown around a lot more and making a lot more people curious about the music, i also put that i thought oakenfold was the big one but tiestos names is well known by alot more people these days!

Posted by Rocco on Jun-18-2004 22:29:

it wasn't the action of one single DJ.

it was the combined work of ALL artists so it's really not fair to recognize one and not the others.

Posted by kwongandy on Jun-18-2004 22:42:

i voted for oakenfold. but really, pete tong should be there.

danny tenaglia, frankie knuckles, roger sanchez, dj sneak for the househeads. maybe eric morillo.
trance is led by oakenfold. behind oakenfold, danny rampling, ferry corsten, prolly.
cox for techno. sven vath perhaps. hawtin for using final skratch.
prog is led by sasha & digweed. behind these guys, hmmm.....

Posted by itikia on Jun-18-2004 23:15:

Definitely Oakenfold. He was the first ever superstar DJ..

Posted by Izra on Jun-18-2004 23:47:

Oakenfold, hands down.

Posted by dartrance on Jun-19-2004 00:34:

These days it is tiesto setting the standards.

But overall, oakenfold for sure no doubt

Posted by rabbitjoker on Jun-19-2004 01:25:

Oakie of course.

Who brought the music to the mass market? Oakie and his Perfecto.

Posted by MarkT on Jun-19-2004 06:42:

toss up between Oakenfold and Tiesto...

Oakenfold helped define the scene...as itikia said, probably the first "superstar" DJ in EDM. Out of that group, you could say that he contributed most to the scene itself.

In terms of a global contribution, Tiesto. Tiesto seems to be known and loved *everywhere*...he's had a big part in trance becoming popular around the world. #1 DJ (so they voted, lol)...but that just proves my point

I voted Tiesto.

Posted by djshan on Jun-19-2004 06:54:

dj danny d

now seriuosly-- i voted for paul van dyk also tiesto has contributed alot.

Posted by Miss Julia on Jun-19-2004 07:59:

Ok, so right now, Tiesto has 9 votes, and Oakenfold has 9 also.

WTF are u people thinking? How embarassing!!!! Oakenfold was around LONG before Tiesto came in the picture. Oakenfold started it all... the clubs in Ibiza, England, etc... he defined the EDM scene, big time!

agreed.

i can't understand the votes for tiesto over oakie- it would be like saying that brittany spears has done more for pop music than madonna. I'm arguing for oakie and i don't even like anything he's done in the past 5 years.

Wasn't he the first person to get a remix onto the top 10. If i recall properly it was a U2 track called "better then the real thing" and the remix actually made it higher then the original track.

Posted by Skipper on Jun-19-2004 16:21:

Carl Cox should be on that list. mauro? Graham, are you kidding?

Posted by PartyHarlequin on Jun-19-2004 18:36:

Anyone else notice that the thread is EDM, but there are basically only trance DJs on the list... Disco people... Disco! OK I'm done ranting.

Oakenfold, without him the vast majority of other big name DJs might not be where they are today! Think about it that way
