Gonna get a new mixer . . .

I've narrowed it down to a few options, and I'm really deliberating buying a new mixer. The three that I'm considering are: Numark PPD01, Stanton SMX-501, or the Vestax PCV-275. Before all of you start saying go Vestax, I'll only have the cash to go for a used one, and I'm not too keen on a mixer that has seen some use, I'd rather have a new one. I could get the Numark brand new and the Stanton like a few weeks old for the same price of the used Vestax. I really like the design of the Stanton, but having a few effects would be nice with the PPD01. I've heard people rave aobut the Vestax's quality/longevity and people talk mess about the SMX-501. However, most of the people who talk down about the Stanton have never used it, and the one review I did read from someone who owned one was very good. What is everyone's take on this?

Also checked out the Tascam XS-8, goes for about the same price. Haven't heard much about this one except for it closely resembles Eclers HAK 320.

I can't say for sure, but the used Vestax should outlast the other 2 mixers. Vestax got my vote

the reason why i talked crap about the smx-501 is b/c after 2 days of owning it, the crossfader curve pot crapped out and made the xfader only cut and not fade. It's simply made of crap components, that's why people talk down on newer stantons. (heck i love my old sk-4 and sk-one b/c they lasted me years, but that was back in the day when stanton made quality mixers)

Do what i did, save up your cash and go for the Rane Empath, best 3channel mixer of all. (i thank my barista friend for talking me into buying a rane after i bitched about how my stanton died after only two days, couldn't be happier)

Oh yeah, the same year i owned a rm-3s that had a phono preamp die in ch-3. Stantons are like Saturns. There's always gonna be people that love them, but there's also gonna be lots of mad people after finding their car is dieing after 70,000mi.

Just my $0.02

If you don't wanna save the $$$ for the empath, check out the Ecler Smac30. Best bang for the buck.

Why are you deliberating between one 2ch. mixer and two 3ch mixers? How many channels do you need on a mixer? if it's 2 channels then compare PPD01 vs. Rane TTm54 vs. new Stanton SA-5 vs. Stanton SA-12 vs. Allen & Heath Xone 02(a little more money, but an incredible piece of equipment). if it's 3 channels you need on a mixer then you just eliminated PPD01 & Tascam XS-8 which you mentioned but is no longer in production. Stanton SMX501 vs. Numark Matrix 3 vs. Vestax PCV180 vs. Vestax PCV 275 vs. a bit more money Allen & Heath Xone 032. Search this forum(DJ Booth) and trust me you'll find quite a few threads with same or similar question. Use opinions only for considerations, not to make purchase. Use your own judgement to make this purchase. Go to a local DJ Equipment store that has items on display, ie. Sam Ash, Guitar Center, etc. and play around with various mixers and pick the one that feels the best to you and don't forget to use mixer's feature vs how this feature will benefit you.

Cheers...

I have that vestax mixer and I also bought it used. I love it.

A vestax will last you a long long time, used or not.
