Better than Winamp
My system started to reject winamp.exe (all versions) so I had to find some of the good old alternatives to Winamp. But on my quest I stumbled upon a player that is actually much better than Winamp.
I really REALLY like it, except for the green colours in the default-skin... Its got some really nifty default features, like the "Remote Control".
Quintessential Player
As for more quality alternative software, here's a webbrowser that actually beats Opera and IE down the drain.

anyways, browsers are a whole other story, but check Quintessential Player out! I am not going back to bloat-Winamp5.03 again
You could also check out FooBar2000
It is pretty nice player also.. 
why does your computer reject winamp?
I like Quintessential, but I only use it for CDs.

i don't use winamp because it uses too much of my cpu when i run it 
it's ok, i like the old, old classic windows media player better anyways 
it hogs resources less when i'm running a crapload of stuff at a time

wish i could find 2.9x winamp, but cannot. reloaded my GUI to 2k and quint and foobar are good - but no milkdrop|
you can get itunes for the PC
i don't know how stable or good it is, but it rocks on mac
but can you stream porn, music videos and anime off of quintessential player?
the porn of WInamp sucks...it like small 3 min clips then it cuts off.boooooooo

Winamp 5.03a all the way. Sure, Winamp 2.91 does the job just fine.....but I haven't had any sort of problems with the new version, so I run it.
i use winamp 5 because it displays id tags on mp3s better but it crashes horribly

itunes was good for a while but seriously the start up time is horrible and the cpu load is like 75% so it sucks majorly

small, simple and it plays nearly any video format and to date ive had no codec problems with it, plus if you have a lan it can stream files from pc to pc over the lan or something like that, i dont have a lan atm so i wudnt know

Cant beleave people accept the version 5.xx just because its new. Its about 10 times slower than 5 and crashes alot, or did for me anyway.
Use the pitchfor plugin too and you can speed up or slow down any mp3, essential for any trance lover.
And the Nucleo skin makes it look all futuristic too.
i wouldnt mind changing from winamp, but im familiar with everything i can do with winamp.. i have 2.95, alls im after from a mp3 player is pitch adjust, equaliser, and an ok looking skin, oh and also being able to play locations/winamp TV and prolly doing a shoutcast if i feel like it
