-- Tear in the Open --- Whoa
Tear in the Open --- Whoa
Just Be has been out for a while now, but you know, how there are some songs that one day you remember out of nowhere and think "Hmmm, I want to hear that again." And that's when you finally open your ears and listen carefully to the music and truly feel it and appreciate it.
I just listened to this song again and if you analyze it, it is such an incredible display of emotion and a clear example of why Tiesto is at the top of the trance movement.
Starting dark and melancholic, slowly an aggressive kick and percussion come in along with the beautiful single strings. When those synths come in... holy shit, they even seem angry and pissed off. As if trying to escape and break free violently. What an incredible track, it is so difficult to capture emotion in that way, but it's done so well here. I've been listening to Tiesto's productions since 2000 and first saw him live in early 2001, this guy deserves the credit he is given.
Incredible tune.
ill have to agree with you about this track... when i first listened to it, i didnt think much of it, but after listening to it a couple of times it really did have an effect... if there was a "Suburban train II" i think this track would be it, for me it would be anyways... it has those synths that are full of emotion.
top tune!
Best track on that album imo, just an amazing peice of work
I agree.
I definatly think this song will be a classic. That synth in the later half of the song is simply amazing.
I do have some perks about it though. The percs are way to simple and I hated that Tiesto used a plain-ole 909 crash, that just kind of messed up the dark/mysterious/sad mood of the song a little bit.
Those subtle industrial sfx are great though. I also liked the fact that the song didn't have those cliche rolling basslines once again.
Anyway, Tiesto did a great job of arranging it, too. The energy just builds and builds until the climax...
I really think this tune needs a remix though. I'm trying to match up that synth melody so I can try...I think it has the same harmonics as "Forever Today". Anyone tried it yet?
I thought it was the worst on the album myself :-/ ...although, actually I've gone off Adagio since first hearing it and would probably put that below now.
Had some nice ideas but the whole thing just felt sketchy & half done to me... it didn't flow nicely & I felt uncomfortable listening to it. Needs a rework/remix, like eulerfx said.
This track is one of my current favs. One of the best songs on the album. The bassline is song amazing.
Undoubtedly the best track on the album. Though for me the track Just Be is another stormer in my opinion a good overall artist album.
Tear In The Open has a truly breathtaking opening sequence with the vocals luring you into the track and instantly grabbing your attention, then in sensational style bringing out a tougher side to the track, before re-introducing the possibly haunting vocals along with the energy the track has built.
A truly great track. Possibly up there with the best Tiesto productions.
Do any of you have the translation to the lyrics? It would be nice to know what she's singing about.
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the best on his album IMO, but definitely a great track. One of those that stands out after a second listen.
I just don't get it. I've listened to it over and over agian, and it still does NOTHING for me. Even after reading everyone's reviews, I can't find it! This track is just not my style I guess. I find it to be very boring!
Are you guys havin a bit of a toke before you listen, cause that usually helps me open my mind a bit more....... but still nothing

I think this song is TERRIBLE, i don't know what people like about it.
Signum - Cura Me actually makes these vocals sound decent, unlike Tiesto's version.
When I first listened to Tiesto's new CD, I was very disapointed. I gave it a chance as I was going to see him on June 10th. Tiesto Opened with A Tear in the Open, and I was like WOW. Then I listened to it on the way home from the party and I fell in love with it. But before I heard him spin it, I didn't think it was anything special. I agree, it's one of the best songs on the CD, next to Walking on Clouds.

...? This track isn't that amazing to me. I was fooled into checking it out and I was disappointed, this track borders on being bad.
This is what I think:
*Good*
The bassline intro, where it's just the bassline after the vocals, sounds great. It's so empty.
The kicks are excellent. I like how they drive the track but aren't too deep.
Those hard single strings are good, but they go on too long and need something to back them up. They shouldn't stay on their own so long.
*Bad*
There is this synth that whirls around and just sounds like an annoying sound effect. It takes away from the song.
There's another synth that comes on after the bass intro that completely, completely drowns out that great bassline. I hate that.
Finally, *Unresolved Tension*. You can't do this in a trance song. Those "angry" buzzing synths at the end sound nice, but I keep expecting them to end on that one damn note and they never do! He shouldn't have made them buzz so loudly and the end, quietly die and come back again. This ruins the song by killing your expectations.
All in all, the song should have been worked on a little bit more. It needs a remix.
