Thumbs down Sasha "Shame on You"

No records?
No CD's?
No laptop?
Headphones around the neck 65% of the time?

Does he have Ears on his neck?

I dont think so! The guy didnt play jack squat last night. John and I were watching him for 45 minutes. There was a mirror door behind the dj booth, so you can clearly see the mixer and what he was doing.

- He only turned around to take a sip of his drink, and not to get a CD.

Crobar had the worst sound I have ever heard in a professional Club in my entire life. That sound was worst then Exits back in 2002 (and Exits was pretty bad)

The system couldn't handle the bass. The mid's and high's were so unclear.

they keep have differnt sound system set up each time? last time for s&d the system was mint

Posted by pyro264jb on Jun-19-2004 22:44:

What she said...

plus -

Sasha set was the pits

Crobar looks like a new TGI Fridays with those stupid signs on the stairway.

erf? His set was all over the place and had ZERO programming. The song placement made no sense at all and there was no journey what so ever.

... so I guess sasha is the next danny howells

thank god the non-sasha sluts posted.

ummmmm. sorry guys i'm gonna disagree. I heard him mix, saw him put the headphones on. a bunch of times....saw him cuing up tracks and mix them.....the sound is awesome in some parts, but one of the stacks did distort abit i gotta say. Marc said they got new stacks in for sasha.

are u suggesting he was faking it?? No way I heard him mix, just like everyone else.....the signs are kinda whack though.

Where were you guys hanging throughout the night? From where I was chillin' system sound A-OK.

Now I'm no"Sasha whore" but I thought he played a well programmed set from start to finish (a few miscues here and there but nothing major). My only complaint is with the music itself not how he was mixing or programming. Prog or at least the stuff he was dropping last night has way to many breakdowns for my liking. It seemed like when I finally started to find my groove a huge drama filled break would come and fuck it all up for me.

John are you suggesting that Danny Howells doesn't know how to program a set?!?!?

at the TGIF comparison

Solid night.

lol obviously someone didn't have fun last night. But i have to point out that although there were no vinyls or laptop, there were plenty of cd's. i was by the side and i saw him pick plenty out.

Posted by fr0st on Jun-20-2004 03:33:

Sasha plays big break downs thats his thing. The sound system was better this time than the previous time... And I saw him cue up plenty of cd's aswell...... IMO he rocked it.....

Question
How do you mix four consecutive tracks without turning around once? (to reach for another cd)

How do you step away from the booth, and have two records mix without you being there?

This must be Sasha's new technique!?

quote:
Sasha Interview http://www.djsasha.com

In about three weeks time Im ditching vinyl and CDs to go out on the road using my computer and thats going to allow me to mix anything with everything, said Sasha.

No Final Scratch at Crobar last night.

i don't think he was referring to fs. ableton live is what he raved about during the involver process, but i don't think he used this last night. just cd's. and those cd's could have had several songs on each of them...he remixes stuff a little bit on his travel times, so who knows what is in each of those cd's. he also seems to like sequencing certain songs in the same order, so that could account for lack of looking for new cd's.

Clubland is suffering so much cause all clubbers are critics now. Everbody stop analyzing and let loose.

Yes if he finds a mix that works he will use it a lot...

for instance
Electric Tease - Tear It Up (Richard KS Ripped Mix)
to
spectrum - kinda new(teifsskdhfwlef mix sp?)

Hes been using that for ages

when i saw him step away from the booth on sever occasions it was right after a mix and the record just played.... And it didnt have any eq work and that was noticable when he was away throughout the night he was eqing it and it was very noticable as i know a lot of the tunes he played...

I totally disagree.

Look what he was capable of a few years ago. His sets progressed made sense, and you could tell he was spinning with thought.

Too bad Diggers wasn't there to save him.

Sasha threw it down at Mansion (miami WMC 04') so I know he still got.

Posted by DJ A.i on Jun-20-2004 05:06:

he could have had a bunch of songs on each CD and kept mixing without haveing to constantly pick out a new CD for each track.

But there are times when DJ's don't have a goodnight plus when you've been around like him things are different. Thats just me. But everyone needs to stop being critics and Enjoy the freaking music. THANK YOU

Yo guys that sux. I just saw him tonight at Sonar in Baltimore and it was f*@#en mint! Great sound, great music....everytime we thought he was done he kept going, and going, and going...

I am very satisfied with his performance tonight and I too am no "SASHA" whore.

Posted by dj tek on Jun-20-2004 14:26:

im not gonna comment on his performance on friday cuz i wasnt there, but to me it seems like sasha's gotten lazy in the past couple years.. hes not hungry anymore.. hes 'praised' as a producer and a dj, makes loads of money, gets booked worlwide all year long..

headphones around the neck 65% of the time means he aint really caring about the mix.. thats for sure.. just matching the beat really which is not tuff to do.. whatever, i think sasha's golden era of djing is over.

omigod just got back from seeing sasha at sonar....WOW!!!!! his set was absolutely amazing. i haven't seen a crowd go crazy like that in a LONG time. he totally rocked it, even for playing just a 2.5 hr set...he rocks my world!!!

tae, it's best said in your sig in regard to sasha: "cocaine is one hell of a drug."

Dj tek to the rescue?
Sasha uses abletron now, read his interview in Mixer magazine..
He said he is bored with progressive now, trying new things, etc.. (like guitar synths..
I thought set was ok, played way too many songs from that Involver cd way too many times.. He was jumping from solid smooth euphoric songs to hard shit.. Just when I would get in the groove on euphoric song, boom, hard sh$t would start and back to rebuilding...
Overall, good set, but he could do better. DJ Tek should be there to resque Sasha..
Wanna see Digger next..
