buying car...

ok, i've got two ideas.

get a good one. be more expensive, but worth it (money wise)

buy a shitty one, and fix it up myself, making it as good or better than the good one.
reasons:

-it'll gimme a better understanding about car parts, cause i bearly know enough about cars to be a guy.

-i can buy it in a few months, as apposed to about a year and a bit.

-other reasons, but too lazy, and high to type anymore.

you are fucking pathetic, if you are a guy and does not know shit about cars, that being said, I know too much, I won automotive awards in high school. Also most women cannot change a flat tire, any woman I ever date, will be able to do that, as well as change oil.

My advice Brad, buy a book about automotive things (I got a huge book like 1300 pages about it). It takes ages to learn all about the cars, the basics are not that hard, it saves you money in the long run.

if u need a car to get around in, just buy and shit one and fix it up so u can actually learn...
if u dont need a car to get around at the moment keep saving and get the better car

Posted by BTG on Jun-20-2004 03:47:

heh. ok tta. don't need to be mean ;(

but isn't building a car and watching it 'grow' a fun/rewarding thing to do?

Posted by torontotrance on Jun-20-2004 03:55:

It is fun to do but it is damn expensive and if you have no clue what the hell are you doing, even more expensive and wasteful. My suggestion, get an auto book and learn it inside and out, it could lead to a career in auto mechanics but at least you know your car.

i played alot of motor city online when it was a free beta. and i even got to drive the same car i'm gonna buy (68 el camino), so i think i know enough to get started building my car.

after owning and fixing up a few used cars, I woudl say buy the new car

its all well and good to know how cars work n all, but really, if you just keep getting a new car, you don't have to worry about it with the warranty n all.

Buy new, learn about cars on a friends used car.

Older cars are more expensive to restore and more complicated, remember back in 1968, they did not have all the great things we got.

Edit: Easiest way to learn about fuel injection, get a lawnmower engine cut in half.

like dvd players and air bags? pfft. who needs that

Posted by torontotrance on Jun-20-2004 04:06:

no no no

engines were not as computerized back then, and their are a bunch of differences between a 68 and 04, not including airbags, dvd players, radios.

heh, i know. but i can't say i like any car (that i'd be able to afford) that is relativly new. they look like space ships more than cars now a days.

i want a car with balls, not photon torpedos.

Posted by Boomer187 on Jun-20-2004 04:17:

actually you want a car with no plastic under the hood.

but make sure you have an alternator, those old generators suck ass.

Umm who needs to know shit about cars when you can pay someone to fix it?

cause then you'd pay double, cause people that repair cars usually make you pay for shit you dont need.

And then you turn around and charge them double for fixing up their computer.

The problem with this dilema is that it will cost you more to buy a crappy car and fix it up, then to buy a good car in first place.

Tune the old car and give its pride back.

New cars are all pretty ugly...try to find an old cheap car in Florida or somewhere warm so A. there's no rust and B. an old person drove it before you (no fast accelerating). You can find really nice old cars for practically nothing in Florida (just one place I know of). Just fly down there and drive it back. Then you have lots of spare cash to make it look nice and maybe sell it later on as a classic that an older person who is nostalgic in respect to a mint car from the 70s will pay a lot of money for. This way you will be forced to learn about cars, and you'll be pimpin a real car

Posted by DarkWater on Jun-20-2004 19:24:

Also, if your car doesn't run all the time, your friends can drive. If you have something that never breaks down, there's no real excuse not to drive.
