Should i sell my decks/vinyls and get cdjs?

i have a pair of technics and over of 250 vinyls (www.discogs.com/~toufas ,the list is missing some rls that arent listed on discosgs)
i really like the things that the modern days cdjs can do and i can see the rise of labels offering digital content.
Should i sell my decks and get a pair of cdj 1000 or the new denon? do u think that i will be able to sell lots of vinyls in order to lower the cost?

selling them wont make u change ur style or the way ur mixing... so i would rather say keep them and keep playing with that .. is abou the same thing

Wouldn't it make more sense to keep the Technics and the vinyl and just add a CDJ to your setup?

at this moment 99.99 % of the stuff that gets released is vinyl only. so you still need to keep a turntable to digitize all your vinyl for cd use. (this can be a SL or a old thorens table)

so if you don't really care about cue-points, wave-data and all the other functions cd players have these days, you'd be better off by keeping your turntables.

This is true. Just add a CDJ to your setup. Both vinyl and CDJ alone have their little problems and advantages, but together they are golden.

no actaully about 60% of stuff but if your half smart you could get another 40% by making contacts in the buisness easily...althought I wouldnt be selling the decks just yet...

I say both

I would not sell your turntables.
Turntables will be a staple in every venue for quite some time. CDjs - not as much.

Plus if you are used to playing on 3 decks, it is rare that you will come across a 3 CD deck set up.

yo, i have pair of cdj-1000 this thing kicks ass!!!but i wouldnt sell ur tables. im thinking about getting pair of techs. i think its more fun to spin with tables then cdjs.

Would you rather you press buttons and have a 500 dollar processor do the job for you or stick with doing the job manually?

im in the same situation.. its mostly a money issue. since vinyls cost so much more than cds.

well, CDJs offer a lot of features, but i wouldn't do away with your turntables just yet. sure, Zabiela can do magic with a pair of them, but at his home studio he mixes either with 3 CDJ1000s, or a pair of them, bundled with tunrtables. not everywhere you go will have CDJs, let alone the 1000s, so it's a good idea to keep your vinyl. but if you can afford it, adding them to the setup would be mint.

the argument that most things are only available on vinyl is holding true less and less. Places that offer paid mp3 releases, and more importantly, a service to burn the original wav's and mail you the cd are the way of the future. I think you will find many more rare tracks getting out this way.
I still wouldn't sell your tt's though. I have quite a few tracks on both cd and vinyl, and almost every time i'll play the vinyl. Cos it's more fun, unless I plan on messing with the tracks, looping, skipping, breaking or some such cdj trick. If you plan on tricking up every single track, sell your stuff and get 2 cdj1k's, but most people simply mix and play most tracks, with the odd trick

Anyways.. i would recommend keeping your TT's and adding a cd-dj, or even look at Numarks CDX.. I was looking at these just a couple days ago, and god are they sweet... and lil awkward.. consisdering they are battle style... but still, a sweet piece of equipment... and it truely FEEL'S like vinyl... which is a huge bonus..

There are really only two ways to get settled in to your DJ equip.

First, Subtractive: there is a buy on an impulse purchase and then you have to sell your equipment to figure out what you like the best. This is a bad method because there is the risk that you might not like mixing with only CDJs and then you'd certainly loose a bit of money switching eq a second time.

Second, Addative: You plan out your whole optimal DJ getup and then you save until you can buy it in pieces if you can't afford it all upfront. But you've learned enough about all of the other mixers to be happy with your purchase no matter what.

If you have already spent so much time learning and saving for your techs then you are definitly an Addative type of guy. Don't sell your techs, you can't do better than that for vinyl. Pick up one CDJ (if you just want to mess around a little bit, then a CDJ-100 is more than fine. I enjoy mixing on those along as well as with vinyl. The only reason that think that it's worth it to get the high-end CDJs is that quite a number of features on there are duplicated with the good mixers. You are paying for three sets of digital effects crap when you only need one on your mixer. So if you are going to spend your money wisely, then you don't want to repeat buy features that you can already use from somewhere else.

If you are more of the subtractive method, then the other thing to think about before you sell off all of your stuff, is what it means for you to be djing. You're selling off the vinyl that you started with. There is a lot of sentiment in a vinyl collection, are you so willing to part with it?

If you are, you are already getting offers to buy your vinyl. If it's good stuff, then you won't have a problem getting rid of it.

For the moment, I think that keeping your decks and adding a CDJ or two would be a wiser decision.

I think vinyl is going to stick around for the foreseeable future.
