Youngsters-team of Euro2004

What would be the best youngster's team of Euro2004? (e.g. <23 year).
My choice would be:

Casillas (Spain)

Cole (England) Bravo (Spain) Heitinga (holland) Lahm (Germany)

Schweinsteiger (Germany) Pirlo (Italy) Cassano (Italy)

Ronaldo (Portugal) Rooney (England) Robben (Holland)

Agree with all except Raul Bravo and Ashley Cole.

Schweinsteiger has shown a bit of promise but hasnt actually done anything, would replace him with Kallstrom

not sure about the whole defence

Put Ledley King in place of Ashley Cole. He's only played one of the two games but he was excellent against France, he and Campbell kept Henry and Trezeguet quiet all game. King is 23, not sure if that counts.

Ashley Cole was made a bit of a fool of by Pires in the first half against France, and has done nothing of note since.

Ibrahimovic instead of Rooney. They are both very different players and I think Ibrahimovic can be of more value than Rooney.

And Sneijder instead of Schweinsteiger. It's a shame Sneijder didn't get that much play time (only one half against Germany), because he's such a great player.

Ofcourse, how could I forget about him! He is definately a better player than Schweinsteiger indeed

I'd go for:

Cech (CZE)

Lahm (GER) Heitinga(HOL) Terry (ENG)

Joaquin (SPA) Robben (HOL) Rosicky (CZE) Wilhelmsson (SWE)

Baros (CZE) Rooney (ENG) Ibrahimovic (SWE)

Loads of other good prospects have stood out so far as well tho, 5 for the bench would be Isaksson & Kallstrom (SWE), Van Der Vaart & Sneijder (HOL), Xabi Alonso (SPA).

As much as I hate disagreeing with a fellow countryman, I have to say I coudln't really disagree any more about Ashley Cole, I think he's been one of England's stand-out players, a combination of attacking flair and good crosses from the left that has provided more of a threat than Neville & Beckham combined down the right, and a defensive side of his game that has blossomed in the tournament, getting in some really crucial tackles and making it difficult for opposition wingers, example, the big tall bald Croation sub on the right wing that caused France all sorts of problems when he came on against them, Cole contained him well and he didn't have much effect as a result.

how about Khan (GER), he's still young

Cole is good going forward but blows hot and cold defensively. Sometimes he makes the crucial tackles but sometimes wingers see him as the weak route through our defence, either by skinning him or winning a free kick in a dangerous area.

In the first half against France, the French spotted quite quickly that the right wing was the best route to go as Pires was getting so much joy down that flank.

His pace has come in very useful on the counter-attack, though. I still prefer Bridge, but Cole has a foothold in this tournament now so he will keep his place.

Rooney has been excellent in all three of England's games, player of the tournament so far for me.

I think its a bit early to make lists like this, but if I would do one, both Zlatan and Rooney would certainly be included.

About Schweinsteiger, does that mean anything in german? "Swine tiger", "Swine climber" or anything at all? Sorry for the stupid question but I have to know

Rooney did great indeed! Topscorer with 4 goals and playing very well.

It's just that I like Ibrahimovic more because of his technical skills and ability to make important goals.

I think Wesley Sneijder, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Joaquin, Wilhelmson and Milan Baros has to be selected as well in this team full of youngsters!
