Is the name "DJ" dieing?

Hey do you guys think that the name DJ is dieing. From what I see more and more people are going with one word names or their actually names as there DJ name. People are saying that putting DJ in front of your name is dumb or that to many people do it that aren't DJ's or aren't good DJ's. So do you think that DJ _____ is a dieing phase? Just wanted to hear some opinions.

I don't think so. A lot of huge DJ's never used "DJ". Sasha, John Digweed, Timo Mass, Ferry (as far as I know. I bet somebody will tell me they used to be known as DJ Sasha, DJ Mass now ). Off the top of my head it seems to be more popular to use "DJ" in Europe than in the UK though.

Sometimes DJs are introduced as DJ Sasha or DJ Ferry Corsten. Ferry's name appears as 'DJ Ferry Corsten' on his global transmissions album. You usually can't use your name anyway if it doesn't sound cool...or you change it.

The reason is b/c too many people try to be DJ's and few really are. alot of people just use the name to be "cool".

The dumbest justification I ever witnessed was a guy who told me he calls himself a DJ b/c he burns CD's.

Foolishness.

Peace on this sad day.

haha thats hilarious
me personally i dont really like the moniker "dj" much... but i'll probably use it in the future
even tho i have a bunch of "web-released" mixes.. i still dont put "DJ" in front of them

because its not like im pro or nothin.. its kinda like poser-ish, eH

Dancing Dude

i dont think The term "Dj" is fading away.....before Sasha, digweed, ferry corsten, tiesto, etc. because there producers and dj'z put together.SO they can call themselves by just there names....They still use DJ infront of there names when they actually made a set or produced a cd. So you rarely see "DJ" infront of a producer who produced a track, because it's there own track,. I'm a DJ cuz i spin other ppl'z productions and wut have you. So it wouldnt sound right if i called myself just KIMBERG, because i haven't made my own tracks yet...So yeah, thats my opinion on why someone is called a "DJ"

Posted by DJ Rob Noli on Sep-13-2001 06:01:

Another reason I stopped using it was b/c people started spinning with CD's. In my opinion spinning with CD players does not make you a real DJ. Also I don't like to advertise what I do. I have no need.

In my opinion it's ok to call yourself a DJ if you spin
and if you also produce tracks it's ok to put DJ in front of your producer name if you spin too
Hell i use it

but

it's stupid to go into for example a chat with DJ in front of your name

like "hey everybody i'm cool i'm a DJ" damn that's a bit annoying

BTW If you "spin" mp3's i don't consider you a DJ
if you want the title, also be willin to get the decks!
