BBC or ITV??

Who has better coverage during Euro 2004?

My opinion, BBC by far.
> No adverts which is a massive bonus.
> Jonny Motson is a great commentator!
> Gary Liniker is a good presenter, better than Desmond!
> Ian wright just talks like a true english fan, and when we score thats what he does, as shown in todays game (england vs croatia) where he was jumping around.
> Townsend and Macoist talk shit!!!

bbc, because they exist only to please the people who pay the tv license money, i.e the public

ITV are there to not please the viewer, but to please the shareholder, look at the grand prix, a "live" sporting event with advert breaks in... now how can that be live coverage if i miss 10 mins worth because of adverts.

I have only the BBC-world here...dont think they have license to broadcat the matches...

Even the Eurosport doesn't!!! Onl the british does!

We r lucky we have our own sports channel!!!

yea, i cant stand adverts puts me off tv totally. Plus BBC also has eastenders.

Posted by chesco on Jun-21-2004 22:53:

i think eurosport provide the best half time analysis and commentary but have a poor picture a lot of the time.

I find both the bbc and itv insulting at times with the amount of shite the likes of motson, tildsley and ian wright talk.

if they would concentrate on the actual game getting played instead of ranting on about entgland constantly then i'd watch it on these channels..

Seconded. These programmes need more neutral commentators/analysts to redress the balance. At least ITV has Coisty, even though he's a stinking Killie-Hun.

BBC

They are better than ITV in the two areas that count - Commentary and Pundits

ITV do pick up points for Gabby Logan and the table that the pundits sit around

ITV are over a barrel. the public pay the BBC for programs, we dont pay ITV, so ITV have to find another source, which is advertising.

apart from euro 2004, the actual standard of non-sport related programs is 10x better than the BBC. i often find myself watching decent programs on ITV, i cant remember the last non-sport decent program i watched on the BBC. infact, the only one i can remember is top gear, and thats this year.

for funded programs, the BBC is very poor at the moment, where ITV have had some cracking shit on.

John Motson doesn't have a clue, anyone who talks about Wayne Rooney in the same breath as Pele is obviously deluded..

Ian Wright is a prat, who put this idiot on National TV, he can barely string a sentence 2gether, mayb u dont seem to realise these commentators and pundits r supposed to b impartial

See if there's any tapes laying round of BBC's F1 coverage and watch one...the ITV coverage may have adverts but be honest, do you really miss anything major? They put them on hold if anything exciting's going on. Apart from that their coverage is outstanding. The things we take for granted now like walks down the pit lane, behind the scene filming with the teams, live feeds to the pit wall during races, studio chat after the race, not to mention the legend that is Martin Brundle

Commercial networks have a much larger need to please the public than the BBC do. Advertisers look at viewing figures and the networks have to do pretty much whatever it takes to get people watching their station. BBC on the other hand are funded by the public and are therefore required to schedule programming in particular ways, as well as showing programming that appeals to minorities (by which I mean small groups of viewers, not black people ). This is why you don't get programs about the mating habits of the common daisy on ITV, there's no point showing them because n ****** watches them.

Anyway in summery, I have no opinion on this topic as I have no interest in football and have only watched one match (yet still I find myself in the top 10 of the TA fantasy football league )

Last nite he said 'and there's Sol Campbell goin in with the tackle' when in fact it was Darius Vassell, how does he not know the difference, the tackle was at Croatia's penatly box when it had just been hoofed up by an England defender, wot did he think Campbell had started playin upfront or sumfing

Posted by Ian on Jun-22-2004 23:37:

Eurosport (who only are allowed to show games on bbc, itv won't allow them to show 'their' picks) simply cos it fits on my 16:9 screen and bbc/itv have those annoying coloured bars on half the screen, really hard to watch, fuckin gimps

Posted by Spin Doctor on Jun-23-2004 01:43:

Its all about the BBC - granted I dont know enough about football commentary to give a fair judgement, but the BBC is one of the great things about our country and it pisses all over all the other channels with its ad free state TV goodness.

Posted by Ste on Jun-23-2004 08:14:

BBC by far, even the mere fact they dnt use ads is superb.

Posted by Spad on Jun-23-2004 12:03:

Gah fuck the BBC. They don't avoid adverts out of the goodness of their hearts ffs, they have no need to advertise. Because we're legally required to subscribe to their service at 120 a year. How can this be the best thing about our country?

It's a fucking wank system, and the programs are shit too.

Grr.
