Talking Wow! ****ing amazing chill out trance, got any other recommendations?

Hey guys,

just been listening to my Dreamstates compilation (see http://www.discogs.com/release/82960 for tracklist) and I am absolutely in love with a couple of chilled out tunes on there, stunning productions!!

Nightmares On Wax - Les Nuits
Paul Van Dyk - Vega
Faithless - Drifting Away (Album Mix)
Xstasia - Sweetness (Katcha Remix)
Life On Mars - Invisible Tears (Original Mix)

I dont think I've ever heard nicer chill out tracks than Xstasia and Life On Mars, have you guys heard any of the above? I'd really like some recommendations on other chilled out trancey stuff as well please.

I also highly recommend the Astro Mix of Orinoko - Island

You guys *MUST* hear these tracks, seriously!! =)

Les Nuits is not trance, it's another example of Nightmares On Wax's trademark blend of downtempo/jazz/hiphop. It is a gorgeous tune and one of my alltime favs, but it has nothing to do with "chilled trance" like the other names you've mentioned here.

Anyways, some tracks:

Illuminatus - Hope (Chill Out Mix)
Three Drives - Greece 2000 (Moonwatcher's Sea Of Tranquility Mix)
Sounds From The Ground - Lean On Me (Solar Stone's Chillout Mix)

yeah I know mate, I realised that when I put it, its still amazing chill out, despite not being that trancey!

have u heard all of the other tracks?

I have Vega on OTAB, and I think there's not a single tune on that album I dislike. Starecase Remix is wicked also

Posted by Simcut on Jun-22-2004 11:53:

what about the Katcha Remix of Xstasia, have u heard that? Katcha uses the best elements of the original matt darey kinda sound and it has some really haunting vocals, absolutely stunning, a breath of fresh air even tho its from 2000/2001.

Life On Mars is spectacular as well, please tell me you've heard those 2 Sand Leaper mate

Sorry Only heard the Moogwai Remix of Sweetness and Life On Mars - Life In Minds, which are both ace but not in the chilled trance category.

Posted by Simcut on Jun-22-2004 12:06:

ah, I'll try and mp3 these, and no its not really file sharing effectively because they are part of a mix, so thats pretty different imho, unless I just make samples ?! the katcha remix is a masterpiece.

Katcha remix of Sweetness is f00kin amazing IMO, like half chilled out ambience, half laid back 4/4 beats. Vega again is more in the chilled side of breaks than trance but what the heck.. who really cares about these things.

Hmm.. here are some i could add:

Jose Amnesia - Eternal (Sunrise Mix)
Airscape - Amazon Chant (Radio Edit)
Ascension - For a Lifetime (Lustral's Sunset Mix)
Ayla - Angelfalls (Particular Beach)
Bedrock - Beautiful Strange (Bedrock's Ambient Beats)
Da Hool - Mama Sweet (Beat Love Chill)
Rank 1 - Airwave (Sunset Chillout Mix)
Push - Strange World (Tranquilo's Underwater Kingdom Mix)
Solid Sessions - Janeiro (Chiller Twist Blue Line Remix)

And lots more can be found when searching "chillout" threads.

I've heard the Astro remix of Island, it's so beautiful. I always loved the vocal and this remix uses it to perfection.

Anyway, you may have this one, but:

Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Humate Remix) is a great chilled rework, better than Michael Woods' mix IMO. Then:

Velvet Girl - Velvet (Chiller Twist Serene Remix)

Chiller Twist did three remixes of this, and this is the most chilled of them; blissful chords over the odd lazy beat.

Ayla - Atmosphere is also very nice, from their first release in 1997.

Now back into the domain of chill remixes of trance anthems we find:

Matt Darey pres. DSP - From Russia With Love (Alaska Remix) as Alaska turn out a nearly beatless rerub that features all the elements of the original. Also try the Alaska remix of Synaethesia.

Deep Dish's remix of Always Remember is their best work and is in my top 15 or so of all time. It's not exactly chilled but you must hear it...

Ahh, you're referring to Ayla - Atlantis (Atmosphere) which was on the '97 rerelease of Atlantis. Atmosphere is just a mix title in the same way as Waterdrop, Elemental Force, Waterfall & Particular Beach are mix titles of Angelfalls, just without the "mix" in the title. Amazing and forgotten chillout track which also has a bunch of trance mixes like the massive predecessor Ayla with a million remixes.

And as for Deep Dish mix of that Dusted track, it is a great one but not really chilled as said. More chilled Deep Dish mixes are for example the ones of Billie Ray Martin - Honey, especially Deep Dish Hoosee Dub is pretty cool IMO.

A must have chillout ambient track is

Chicane - Saltwater (thrillseeker Rmx)

and if you like that one you'll like

Lange - Frozen Beach (quite rare but is one of my all time favourite ambient songs...)

Matt Darey Presents DSP - From Russia With Love (Alaska Remix) is on the cd too, excellent track!

If you dig Nightmares on Wax style, search for Cafe del Mar singles and albums, some of it is impossible to listen to, but the rest is worth any efforts - simply jewels of laid back daydreaming.
