-- idea on how to cut back on clutter...

idea on how to cut back on clutter...

i don't know if this is even realistic, but i was thinking about all of the hub posts and where can i dl posts and about a way to prevent more and more of them...

so i was thinking that a way to solve that (although perhaps a little harsh) would be to suspend those people starting the thread for a day or two with the justification that TA does not support filesharing so please do not start threads on the subject matter.

also, it seems that once the thread is made...excessive flaming usually occurs. perhaps also suspend those people responding to the thread with suspensions for a day as well...simply say that there is no need to respond...the mods will take care of such threads.

of course you shouldn't just start suspending everyone. in the beginning perhaps you start to issue warnings about future suspensions in hub dl threads when they are closed by a mod.

i don't know...probably not realistic and a little too harsh, but it just came to mind.

The problem of short-period suspensions is that Swamper would have to take care of all these things alone, and I'm not sure whether he would be able to do it - it would just keep him from doing the rest of the stuff.

Or there's the possibility of increasing the font size of the filesharing sticky topic by 50 sizes. That should send the message quite well.

i agree. ok i wouldnt say exactly 50 sizes bigger... but that sticky is lost between the other stickies and the normal threads. maybe it should remain at the top (even though there will be no new posts) along with the entire thing being in bold/underline/italics/bigger

How about making a banner that tells the newcomers that it doesn't support filesharing. Maybe for like the first week of their account (or even until they lose their tranceaddict in training status)? Kind of analagous to the forums at somethingawful.com, except theirs goes away if you register for their forums.

That's a good idea

or maybe the mods could just delete them when they see them and pm the noob and telling him we dont support this shit or else we're tieing a rope around ur penis and gonna make u swing from trees

We already do the first bit.

Maybe it's time for the second part

How about something implemented into TA forums, some program that looks for curtain sentences and deletes them, have it search for lines like "where can I download mp3s" and diffferent ways of asking that question, then just have the program delete them right away and send a PM to the thread starter.

Making such a program would be too complex. I still stand behind my banner idea. A lot simpler in my opinion.

I don't think it would be to hard for a programmer to do, they have programs for schools that search for games and delete them.

If only we had the ability to unsuspend users it would make things run much more smoothly
