Thumbs down Only An Hour Of Lasers At Central Park!!

I haven't seen anyone comment on this, but I just realized that it wont get dark till around 830-900 and we will only get an hour of the lasers on Friday...Oh well...

if they even give you lasers. Paul would prolly rather pocket that money and buy more prada pants..

They expect clouds/chance of rain Friday, so it'll get darker earlier hopefully

Ya i remember seeing lazers right when it was gettind dark(meaning some light still out). I CANT WAIT

if you had enough smoke you could put up a good laser show in broad daylight. all you need is enough retardant to catch the beam of light and slow it down so that the measly human eye can see it. if i'm not mistaken light travels at 3.00x10^8 meters per second. so in daylight you'd need a shitload of smoke, but it can be done/

rain works also

true, but rain is not as constant as smoke.

Posted by sandstorm03 on Jun-24-2004 06:03:

its not about slowing down the light, its about refracting it...

Posted by umes23 on Jun-24-2004 07:24:

true that rain might help hehe.
you guys are talking nonsense. every single paul van dyk event in new york has lasers brought in

that's true, however refraction is, essentially, slowing light down. correct me if i'm wrong, but when light passes throug different media, it slws down hence refraction. what's the difference?

Posted by trancEyes22 on Jun-25-2004 03:45:

speaking of smoke, can you smoke in central park?? or rather at summerstage??

Posted by sandstorm03 on Jun-25-2004 03:50:

its reflection not refraction(my bad), because the light isnt getting bent, its the particals in the air that reflect the light...
so if you shine a lazer pen through dust/dirt/light/smoke, it "lights" the particals up making the path.

quote:
Medium Speed of Light in Medium
speed of light in a vacuum is 299 792 458 m/s
speed of light in air is 299 702 547 m/s
speed of light in ice 228 849 204 m/s
what is the speed of light in water 225 407 863 m/s
what is the speed of light in glass 199 861 638 m/s

gonna notice a difference

tranceyes, you can smoke at CP. that shit's nasty, i dont know why you'd do it anyway. makes your breath smell el terrible!

right. my original point though was that smoke is better because it's a more constant medium was opposed to rain because it's a dense cloud. rain is irregularly droplets...well, does the consistency of the medium make a differnece?

i dont think there will be a problem either way

lol, agreed.

You know when they do that effect with the lazer and the smoke looking like clouds above you? Well is it possible to make some type of effect with those clouds and make it look like the lazer clouds would be dropping the rain fall?

I hope I said that right
