Passport count as legal ID?

Just as the subject says... would the guvernment accept passport as a legal ID? My friend doesn't have a drivers license yet... (loser)

yea my gf always uses not only passport but a SHITTY photocopy of her passport..not only does it not look like her but u cant even make out the face..i gues the bouncers get confused and let her in?

as far as i know a passport is legal identification and is accepted all over the world and is in fact better identification than a licence or birth certificate.....except to my surprise at mac's milk stores....thats right! what is good enough identification for me to travel between countries is not sufficient for mac's milk to allow me to buy cigarrettes!
(i have an american passport but i dont see why it should make any difference)
