As long as you arent going to see so you can be like "whoooaa mannnnn I totally never knew GWB was Hitler and trying to kill all Americans!!!"

GWB has a lot of shit wrong with him, and if we werent in the middle of a war I wouldnt vote for him again, but I get the feeling from what I have seen this is going to make the dude look like the Anti-Christ.

and I hate it because everyone after Bowling For Columbine was *shocked* at how much we didnt know about our own country. Actually, everyone who didnt live in America was shocked. Most people here thought it was kind of bullshit.

Interesting.

but bullshit.

Already got my tickets....

Posted by nialsjd on Jun-24-2004 17:43:

i'll try and watch it. I think Moore is more annoying than informative, but i'm always up to see the other side of the story. Some of my friends say they would like to see it, although if they find anything absolutely ludicrous, they'll walk out. me, i'll just watch the whole movie, come back to the forums and get ready for a discussion (which of course will eventually be closed).

Posted by Orbax on Jun-24-2004 18:06:

I just hate how he GLORIES in being controversial

thats his point. He doesnt want to save america, he wants to be talked about.

Out of morbid curosity, why would the fact that you're in a war make you want to vote for Bush?

Posted by Orbax on Jun-24-2004 18:30:

I dont know how smart a regime change is when we have thousands of troops off in some hellhole. The war needs to be ended properly, not just ended, and I dont want a pussy like Kerry in office right now that dude is middle O da road and I think that we need a slightly tougher stance right now.

Posted by TweeK on Jun-24-2004 18:41:

THe movie looks like some kind of documetary....why dont they just put this shit on TV on some kind of learning channel.SO no im not going to pay $8 to see a beefed up documatary.

Looks pretty bad for bush though from the trailer i saw

does anyone know if its true or not if Ray Bradbury is suing Michael Moore over the name?

Ray Bradbury wrote the novel Fahrenheit 451 about 45 years ago, but i dont think Michael moore got any rights to use the name..

hmmmm

Posted by Pheobius on Jun-24-2004 18:52:

The problem is, that it's the same i my country to some degree, is that we cannot like Michael Moore and be patriotic, that is patriotic to the current situation of our countries. That is because he is outrageous and we have been indoctrinated into beleiving that the outrageous are somehow less than the servile. All through education it's the same. Think about it, as a kid you were always told to keep your head down, keep your opinion to yourself and your'll get through fine. You want to be yourelf? forget it, that'll only get you into trouble.

Moore claims to love America but what i beleive he really means is he loves the ideals his country are based on. I am ALL for that. Patriots should be loyal to their constitution or whatever they have, they should never blindly follow their leadership, that is not patriotic, that is almost the opposite of patriotism because it betrays the values upon which your country resides.

That MSN journalist is really quite studpid not to realise the reason Moore dedicated the movie to dead soldiers. He's not praising them for duty or glorifying battle. Hes simply using this opurtunity to effectivel apoligise on behalf of the American people for the fact they had to lose their life.

Moore has some major issues i agree. However he is overal fantastic in his approach. The fact he sorrounds himself in publicity is not for personnal gain, it simply promotes those ideals tha he is portraying. Whats wrongs with wanting questions answered, whats wrong with following the leads that may bring jsice for the tragedy of 9/11?

Also what is wrong with making a film subversive? If the subversion is for a worthy cause then how can that be a wrong thing. America is based on principles of democracy. All Moore really wants is a return to accountability. What the hell is wrong with accountability?

Posted by Pheobius on Jun-24-2004 18:57:

On the subject of the film (i apoligise for that rant), it's gonna be pretty much the same as Stupid White Men combined with Dude Where's My Country. But i look forward to that, it will help promote Moores criticisms. What is wrong with these questions being asked, who knows, Bush may be innocent of any wrong doing.

They've almost got identical policies with regards to the war though, i anything Kerry will probably beef up the amount of soldiers. IMO a regime change wont have a negative effect on the situation, if anything it will improve the US' standing internationally.

Let's be fair here. You're calling a Vietnam vet with two purple hearts a pussy? I he's a pussy, then what's Bush? (an AWOL pussy?)

We've still got about 1000 troops in Iraq ourselves, and out opposition has pledged to withdraw them immediately i it wins government later this year. I haven't heard anyone suggest that our opposition leader is a pussy. If being a pussy means that you don't start wars based on lies, then i'd be damn proud to call myself a pussy.

I agree that Kerry is further to the left than Bush (which I see as a good thing), but foreign policy wise, I doubt much will change whoever you elect. Neither of them are going to pull out.

If he's re-elected, I wouldn't be surprised if Bush doesn't go and get you (and intern us, as we invariably send troops to every US war it gets itself involved in) bogged down in yet another messy conflict - he's certainly managed to screw up Afghanistan, the place is run by warlords, some worse than the Taliban.

Apparently he wants to 'avoid litigation', so no, he probably wont sue. Even if he did though, I don't know how much chance he'd have of winning. Al Franken won his case with regards to his parody of Fox didn't he? In my mind you can draw some parallels with the situation we've got here.

That so called journalist is an historian, a left leaning one no less, who has no love for Bush, what he does have is facts, and we all know what facts are to the kool aide drinkers....

I'm pretty sure he would be protected under parody law.

do you realize how easy it is to get a purple heart? What exactly were his injuries? You could jam your finger in your ak 47 and get a purple heart. I am in auto tech with a guy with a purple hert and he got it for bullshit reasons. Just because Kerry has 2 purple hearts doesnt mean he's a hero in any form.

Posted by Orbax on Jul-11-2004 02:01:

I hate this thread because of its spin off now.

Posted by torontotrance on Jul-11-2004 02:55:

Give me a break here, it is not easy to get a purple heart and they don't award them to people who jam their guns, Kerry saved some people's lives in Vietnam, he was given the medals that he deserved. Who cares about Kerry here, this was about how stupid the movie by the bigot/hypocrite aka Michael Moore was.
