Beckham?

What do you guys think? I mean, 2 missed PK's in this tournament alone. He is such a good shot taker, wtf happens to him when he takes pk's? Remember Argentina vs. England few years back when he almost passed out on the pitch before takin that pk? Damn, why is he so nervous?

Posted by TJM on Jun-24-2004 23:23:

He really drives himself hard and puts pressure on himself to perform, thats what makes him such a great player but also brings nerves in situations like that - look at zidane vomiting on the pitch before his against england.

The other thing though I don't think hes made for taking penalties when you look at the way he strikes the ball, it can be a bit hard for him to disguise where hes putting it.

Also he is so unlucky 2nite! Look at the replay - when he puts his left foot down the earth divots up and the ball actually moves in front of him.

figo is as over-rated as beckham for penalties imo. people were talking one of these days that he has missed 4 of the last 5 penalties for our national team. i'm not totally sure that that's true.. but.. i remember a few misses

glad that postiga went on his place today

Beckham can just kiss my ass.Fucking overated piece of shit.

Did u see the look on his face when he missed that penalty. He look at the penalty spot like it wasnt his fault that he missed.

LOL!!!! He actually look disgusted at the spot and not himself!!!

Hmm, well when you volunteer to take a penalty in front of 50,000+ fans and millions around the world, please let us tranceaddicts know how it went

Regardless, I do think Beckham should do better on those penalties, whether he slips or not thats all part of the kick. 3 missed in a row is poor by any standard and I think he knows that. Having said that, Rui Costa killed a duck today as well, dont see many people reminding themselves of that. And I don't think the Portugese would be too slow to be thankful that Figo didnt take any-he's got a terrible penalty record as well.

Beckham is a great player...but I think it's time he realised that he isn't the man to be taking England's penalties. This is three times in a row that he's cost us the game, though to a lesser degree this time. His PK was disgusting....this will be a repeat of 98 I think...Beckham will now be Public Enemy #1 in the UK for quite some time.

ABout the publicj enemey, I dont think so. He is untouchable after his performances in an England shirt (bar the penalties ofcourse although he did put away the most important of them all). The media and fans would be hyprocritical scum to get on his case again (not that they arent hypocritical scums as it is).

I get nervous taking penalties in front of my friends with no one else watching. I cant imagine how it feels in front of the whole world.

please goto the nearest bridge and relieve this world of your pitiful lifeform

Beckham has guts, but atm has too many personal problems to captain england, I think he should relinquish the captaincy & concentrate on becoming a success in spain, the real fans saw glimpses of the true Beckham and he has to prove them right, and sort his head out

he is kinnda overrated...

indeed, I think the ball moved about 5 cm before he actually hit the ball, that's why he missed the penalty kick

Posted by MiB on Jun-25-2004 07:18:

he is a great player but shall not take penaltyshots i think.. i mean.. look.. almost 99% of his passes is more than perfect .. always lands on the fot of the player he passes to from over half the feild..

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Jun-25-2004 08:36:

England need beckham...I hope everyone, including Beckham, realises that. But he needs to play better...I don't know what his problem was in this tournament, whether it was a nagging injury or what, but he was piss poor most of the time. We need him, but it should be VERY clear to Sven, or his successor, that Becks is NOT the man to be taking England's penalties....and certainly NOT the first penalty in a shootout. He obviously cannot deal with the pressure....three in a row missed is not acceptable at this level. Step aside and let Rooney do them from now on.

I laughed so hard when Becks missed his penalty.. Don't think he will be shooting many penalties after this tournament...

People will always miss penalties, that's a given in life, it's the guts of a man who's missed his last 2 to stand up first & take another one that impresses me

Well I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses cos I'm not, but did you see the state of that spot? Was a fucking disgrace, he pointed it out & all the other shooters after him ended up jumping around on it for several seconds, flattening it out before placing the ball, looked like someone had dug a hole there (and beckham probably wished he could jump in it.. lol, sorry bad taste )... not saying he would've definitely scored if it was in good condition but i think he would've at least got it on target.

Posted by trewqy on Jun-25-2004 11:44:

I know about the condition of the spot kick.

Still, its no excuse TO BE ALL PISSED AT THE PENALTY SPOT.He should have took it like a man and be apolegetic and blame himself(which he did in the end)

2ndly, even if the ball moved or the ground somehow was unstable..he still should have hit the target.I've taken penalties before and I've never ballooned it that high even when I miss.

Many retired footballers have looked at the way beckham hits the ball when he takes penalties and all of them agree it isnt the best way to score penalties. He puts too much body weight on his left leg making him unstable.Maybe it works for his free kicks and crossings but taking penalties is a whole different story.

And lastly, stop trying to defend this guy.Hes cheated on his wife, he has tons of money, he could have any girl in this world..even with that squeaky ass voice of his...The last thing he really needs is ur pity...cause frankly.. I think he couldnt care less.

Still, theres no chance in hell he should to be labeled "world class" let alone england captain. That job should be given to Steven Gerrard!

Victoria Beckham has broken the world gang bang record

In 120 mins her shaven C*nt f*cked the hole of England.

Not once but twice since 1998!

As they say, Beckham is the best model amongst the football players and the best football player amongst the models.

Do you think that Real Madrid really needed him as a right wing or as a TV ratings boost?

Posted by evil_bastard on Jun-29-2004 02:14:

Ruud Van Nistelrooy missed 3 in a row for Man Utd this season, but gained his confidence back and people have forgotten about it.

For 2 of Beckham's 3 misses he slipped. It sounds like an excuse but it's just very bad luck. It's difficult to put a penalty that high even if you try, his standing foot sank into the sand while the ball probably did lift just before he kicked it. Against Turkey he slipped badly and fell over as he kicked the ball, it also went high over the bar. I don't doubt that the pressure in both situations got to him, and might have contributed to him slipping, but I think it's mostly just a case of bad luck. I think he will overcome this, although obviously it would be wise to consider another penalty taker.

Posted by DJ-Fuq on Jun-29-2004 02:41:

It was his own fault he missed, it was a shit penalty. First of all he sprinted as fast as he could at the ball, then he leaned far too far back/left and didnt get his body over the ball at all to keep it down, it was always going to miss.
