which camera should i buy?

so my Nikon Coolpix 3100 broke on me last week, but thankfully i bought the 4-yr extended warranty from Best Buy because i knew i was gonna break it. they can't fix it, and they no longer carry that same exact model, so i get to pick out any camera at the price range of $300 (anything over $300, i'd have to pay the extra amount). here are the details on the one i am looking at:

Canon PowerShot 4.0-Megapixel Digital Camera

This digital darling helps you shoot images like a pro, with an LCD panel that flips and swivels to give you the best view.

4.0-megapixel CCD captures high-resolution images

3x optical/3.6x digital zoom/11x combined zoom

1.5" color TFT-LCD monitor with variable-angle function; real-image optical zoom viewfinder

so i'm curious... does anyone have any opinions on this camera or Canon digicams in general? the things i care about most are good battery life and quick image capturing (my Nikon had kind of a lag when you take pics, making it hard to capture good pictures in a club environment). i'm not looking for super-duper-amazing picture quality, obviously. just as good as you're gonna get for a 3 or 4 megapixel camera. the nice thing about the Canon is that it uses the same kind of memory cards as the Nikon i had, and i already have a 128 MB card.

if there are other brands that are highly recommended, i'd check those out also. Best Buy carries digicams from Fuji, Sony, Olympus, Kodak, Minolta, etc...

so let's hear some opinions. and no "Best Buy suxx0rz" comments plz.

That camera sounds SWEEEEEEEET!!! I say go for it!!!!!
I actually love my Kodak easy share. Mostly because it's small and fits inside my bar purse when I bring it out to the clubs!!!

here's another one that's peaking my interest:

Canon PowerShot 3.2-Megapixel Digital Camera

This sleek, feature-intensive digital camera looks as good as the images it captures.

3.2-megapixel CCD captures high-resolution images

2x optical/3.2x digital zoom (6.4x combined zoom)

1.5" color TFT-LCD monitor and real-image optical zoom viewfinder

Quick Shot function provides ultrafast shutter release

less megapixels and that one is only $279 (i really want to be able to use the full $300 credit), but the Quick Shot function is kinda neat. and it's a bit smaller, too. i'll still probably go for the other one though, since it uses the same memory card i already have.

both cams take video w/ sound.

I'd say Canon PowerShot 4.0 is the one you should get. Having shutter and aperture priority is alot better than just trusting the camera's lightmeter in every occasion, it's also essential when there's extreme bright/dark light situations, giving you the opportunity to manually over/underexpose to get the correkt exposure.

Given the chance to manually select shutterspeed makes a good ground for experimenting with long shutterspeeds, which, in right light, produces excellent pictures.

You can also change the ISO settings manually, which means you can take sharper pictures in darker surroundings.

oh hell, i've got the 4-yr warranty. if i end up not liking it, it'll "break" and i'll just get a new one.

all these people (inclduing me) says: just buy this one, I've heard it's great.. ya, sure it's great, but.
Maybe you should set up som things you want your camera to have? e.g: At least 4 Mp, At least 3 x OPTICAL zoom, don't bother with digital, it's just shit (you can do it manually on the computer). Is it a must to have the option to take short videos? Battery, regular AA, or Lithium.

The best thing (I think) Get a "half pro" (is that a name) like flipt it on, take a picture, and you're done. and so afterwards, cause you will eventually brake it, won't you:P, then buy a better, if you feel like

Here, I set up some links for you (they're in Norwegian, I'll try to transelate ) "laveste pris/lowest price / by 7 = xxx US dollar

* Casio Exilim EX-Z4 : http://produkt.akamera.no/vis_produ...product_id=9323
* Canon PowerShot A80 : http://produkt.akamera.no/vis_produ...product_id=9277
* Olympus Mju 410 Digital : http://produkt.akamera.no/vis_produ...roduct_id=16333

Hope you get what you're looking for. Taking photos are quite fun actually

she.

i went with the first Canon i mentioned, seems to be pretty cool. i've got my eye on the Canon 4MP Digital Elph though. i would have gotten that one but i would have had to shell out an extra $100.
