Ok, what is 'hard trance'?
I've heard so many definitions of it. Can anyone clarify?
I always thought, for example, "Mauro Picotto - Live at Gatecrasher NEC 13-04-02" was hard trance. Especially the first 20 minutes of it.
thats more him attempting to play techno then anything..

Not strictly true but my observation is that hard trance is called as such because of more abrasive sounds -- for example, the air-sucking THUMPHHH kick drums found in a lot of tracks. It isn't a subtle nudge, or even a wink of a kick. Rather, it's a hard-hitting hammerfest that drives and burrows into your skull at high volumes. Sometimes, they're adopted gabber babies, slowed down to fit. Similar cases can be made for audible distortion on certain types of synth riff sounds, and maybe an acid influence, as commonly presented in the case of Kai Tracid (which is like, trance & acid, maaan!).

Uberdruck is Hard Techno, i.e. Schranz

I'm surprised no one mentioned Lee Haslam. Great producer, even if he mostly does Hard House.

^^ He's already been listed. Besides, you can't deny that Lee Haslam is awesome in HT. That's why I brought him up.
What's Hard Trance?
In most cases hard trance is what they used to call Happy Hardcore IMHO. Hard dance music with stabs that remind you of the "hardcore rave days".
But hey, that's just my opinion.
Try a "vespa 63" set, thats some good hard trance
