equipment maintenance...

i was wondering how much of those common setup problems are actually fixable. like say my friend bought a pair of tech12's, a bit beaten up. we noticed by placing it at 0 pitch that the dots do not stay 100% still, as they flutter a bit more than they should. obvioulsy, this is to be taken to a professional, but is it fixable? and basically what would they need to do to it?

how about the mixer? you pull the fader down, yet the channel is still blaring, or it's crackling like a mofo... what to do?

tell us about your problems, the ones you've been able to fix yourselves, the ones needed to be taken to a shop, and the ones that were not fixable.

also give us newbies a tip or two to keep our gear in shape.

check this out. i have two MK2's and a Numark 3001x mixer. on my mixer my 3rd channel is shot. my fader is on the rag 24/7 and some of my EQ's are shot.

how i fixed my fader was taking it out 100% from the mixing board unit and putting it in a box.

my 3rd channel is all the way down with some tape so it dosent come up and the EQ's are all at -15.

as for my turntables they run great.

one of my tables though runs atad bit slower then my other one so it makes beat matching differnt each time i switch tables.. ( i start sets with my right deck, so if i was to start a set with my left deck then it would be at different -8/+8 numbers), but to correct this problem you should just lift your platter and find the knob on the motherboard of the turntable that is labled "pitch" and just adujust that a little bit. then run the same record on each table to see if its in sync and if not then keep adjusting the slower table untill it functions the way you want it to. (BTW in night clubs the tables never spin at 100% Zero speed when the light is clicked on green.) and as for headphones. once they go out they go out no replacment parts..

Some headphones are modular and have replacement parts available.

for the decks having diferant platter speeds when set at zero, i dont see how it would matter. i play fully by ear and pay no atention to them little dots at all. as long as they can hold the speed they are fine as far as im concerned. if you do want to fix it then like said before there should be a screw labled that can be adjusted but its risky as the screws tend to be very very sensitive and you have a good chance of making things worse if you are not very carefull.

the channel still blaring and crackling basicly means there is a high chance you need to replace the fader. try blowing in it (some sugest blasting with compressed air) incase it is dust. if it dont help your probly gonna need a replacement. they cost upwards of �5 depending on you mixer and can get quite expensive if they are optical.



as for problems ive been able to fix how about spilling a half pint of water on one of my decks whilest it was on!!! i managed to fix that but i think some of it was down to luck since nothing burnt out.
