I've been checking out photos of various parades around the world and I hate to say that our lesbians are fugly but HEY...it's all good!!!

I'll copy and paste my review I posted on tribe.
*you probably won't recognize the names of the tribers but oh well...

Every pride I do fewer and fewer drugs and have a better and better time...Never thought I'd hear myself say that. ...especially regarding pride!

Friday: I spent DJing a private party, but then met up with mercure, lysistrata and some others at mercure's cute apartment downtown. Consumed too many strange colored alcoholic conconctions until about 4am.

Saturday: tried the main beer garden and despite awesome weather, great tunes (thanks to lady bass) and even better company I had to head home after 1 beer for a nap. Slept til 9pm then got ma party on in preparation for PRIDE BALL. The lovely Lysistrata came over and we consumed martinis and champagne and then headed down to the docks around 2:30.

Whoever said the sound system in the docks is better than at boa needs to give their head a shake. And take out their earplugs too. It was good, but it wasn't boa. You just can't take a room like the docks' main room, put a big system in there and expect it to come out the same as boa's!

Regardless, pride ball was fun. I love the big parties, with the big men and the big lighting. and thank god for the big patio.

Caught about 30-45 mins of Marcia's set, which was right before mine. You were right about those monitors marcia.... regardless, it was still fun, even though there was a small blip in the schedule when security told me to shut down 15 minutes into my set. Lil'Nick runs around to everyone "KEEP DANCING" and screams to me "JUST KEEP GOING!!!" haha

It felt so good to play fast funky techno again! I've been into the housey stuff too much lately.

Got home at 8am, sober but wired, slept 3 hours.

Sunday: anti-parade party at my friend's place in the village. Drank too much. Dr. Trance was the same - in all his usual grossness (sorry). Deko-Ze came on and just rocked it! Including "you spin me" and murder was the bass...what always makes me laugh is how BAD the sound is, yet how great the party still turns out to be...

and of course, deko-ze's outfit was the popular attraction...started off with sailor hat, white pants and sunglasses...ended up in a jock strap. Atta boy!

Exhausted, left around 9 but capped everything off with a friend who was away all weekend and didn't make it to any of the celebrations.

Perfecto weekend.

Some pics of mine (a lot of my pics ended up being of me since my camera was with someone else during my set):

Being silly with friends at pride ball:

The only picture I actually posed for during my set:

Edit: why is imagestation only linking some of my pictures?

Well that's no fun

So what only skipper partied it up during pride?

Posted by Skipper on Jun-29-2004 14:32:

I know crazedcanuck and torontobarfly partied!

I think the TO pride festivities need some serious kick...it seems that the rest of the world is catching up with their celebrations (Just saw stuff from Israel, France, South American countries...) and soon enough our pride parade and parties will be another thing that we've lost...

It was nice to see you on Friday, Sarah. But mercure's cute apartment was not so cute after that party...

It was the ice cubes, wasn't it?
(please tell me that you didn't get evicted)

hey sarah ure lookin good in those pics!

i wish i would have made pride but too damn expensive, and plus im in montreal right now.

Posted by Skipper on Jun-29-2004 16:22:

How long are you in Montreal??

Posted by crazedcanuck on Jun-29-2004 16:30:

WoW, what a great weekend.

I was spoiled musically, as I was bartending doing everything on the floor @ O'Grady's all weekend.... I have enough crazy stories for a novel by the end of this weekend.

All of you that played, especially LadyBass, Chiclet, Matt Gracie, and Dekoze saved my sanity as I popped out on the fire escape or the roof to dance my ass of when i needed a refresher from the insanity. (especially after I got jumped @ the door)

It was good seeing so many of you on the patio, and I did my best to get as many of you in as possible all weekend. After Dekoze treated me to some morning madness @ zone I happily returned the favour by getting the poor guy inside for some much needed rest and food before his set... and in return he absolutely killed it as usual.... (how does he do this week after week???)

All in all, a fantastic weekend, in which I also managed to squeeze in Todd Terry @ System and Saeed @ Boa after I finished work @ 4am before Deko tore up the zone (and my dress-shoes which fell apart dancing).

i also had an awsome pride! i spend a lot of saturday and saturday night making my costume for the parade and working on the OCAD float. i dont know how to post pics? but i looked like a crazy red furry cave woman! it was awsome, i had so much fun! i cant wait to do it again next year. did anyone see the polar ice float? DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!

The ice cubes, plus a few other things. I just had a plumber in today to finish the last of the repairs.

And no eviction, just a stern warning...

I think I consumed more beer and martinis on this four day weekend than in any previous MONTH this year...ummmmm...at least my eyes were open for that pic though

I wrote a blurb in the other thread on PrideBall. Mucho Gracias for Mark Oliver, Sarah and Chiclet's sets that kept me happy on sat. night...the main DJ, Barry Harris, was rather boring. Deko-ze et al. were throwin' down some fun tunes on the streets over the weekend...I was walking by one stage singing along to PVD's "Time of our Lives" as the crowd was going *insane*

All in all, a very fun weekend...Pride is one party that cannot be duplicated anywhere in this city...gay, straight, young, old, families, etc. all partying it up on the streets together and having a great time...this city really comes together sometimes...I love it!

It was nice to have seen several TAs and familiar club faces throughout the weekend...Chris, Marc, Sarah, Craig, Nick, Mike, Scott, Dan, Jay, Eric, etc...Sarah, I forget your friend's name from sat. night (I asked her 3 times...and I shamefully forgot...I'm amazed that I remembered my own name at that point though, lol).

starsearcher...I'd like to see the parade become more exciting (I've skipped the last two out of boredom), but my neighbour just came back from Tel Aviv...she said that Pride over there was no more exciting than our own...I think we still have the 2nd largest event in the world, to my knowledge? Over a million people come into the city and millions more is poured into our economy as a result, usually with very little disturbance.

Really the only thing I can compare it to here is the Montreal Jazz Fest in terms of size...that's another city that really knows how to shut down even more of their downtown core and throw a great party

Posted by Skipper on Jun-30-2004 03:21:

^^ oh, okay...because I will be visiting soon, but not before you come back to TO.

Posted by chrismack on Jul-03-2004 16:01:

Err... Sorry. It's taken me this long to recover.

First off, Sarah. I find it funny that you are boldly telling me you broke the "Ya gotta French Kiss girls in order to pla Pride Ball" rule BEFORE ya get paid. Hmmmm. I say eithert get those lips puckered or we might find you in breech of contract. :-)

I know it has been said before, but Deko-ze absolutely rocked every time I saw him on the weekend (and he seemed to be everywhere!)

Props to Chiclet, Sarah and Mark Oliver for giving me something to celebrate at Pride Ball. HOly Fuck! If anyone had told me what I was getting into when I signed on for that gig, I would be in Montreal myself.

Last thing. Pride Week and the Parade are all volunteer run. I and my friends can provide the infastructure and the forum, but in order to keep it fresh and amazing, we rely on people to come up with the awesome floats, volunteer to make the event fabulous (we really needed some people this year to help us decorate the street and stages, but nobody came forward, so you all got the same stages I designed last year - again. Sorry about that), and donate to the Toonie Drive so we can pay for it all.

If I was any more fucking proud, I'd be dead right now.

Err. Happy Pride.

Chris
