For all those who got sick of sonys cracking and bough pioneers....read inside

I too got sick of them cracking and sony not wanting to know, so as some of you may know, i bought a pair of pioneer hdj1000s just before xmas.

bad news is they broke about 2 months ago- one of the things that enables the cups to swivel on the arm has snapped inside and i can hear it rattling. Still works fine, but somethings clearly snapped.
Result is me being paranoid the cup is going to fall off and the wire snap in the middle of a night- worst case scenario.

I phoned pioneer Uk- who informed me that they dont fix hdj1000s- they REPLACE them if still under warranty. I couldnt do it direct through pinoeer tho- i had to take it back to the dealer (doesnt matter if its an authorised dealer or not) who will then give me a new pair, and send back the broken pair to their distributors.

i was sceptical the dealer would tell me to sod off- but no, i went in this morning, and he phoned pioneer and his distributor to check

I now have a brand new pair here with another 2 year warranty on the new pair.

Excellent service, and will put anyones mind at rest about a similar situation with the sonys developing, where they dont want to know and refuse to fix/replace them.

How long did it take ur 700s to break?

Posted by Freak on Jun-29-2004 14:27:

1st pair 12 months
2nd pair 5 or 6 months after getting them they showed signs of hairline cracking. Sony didnt want to know.

I look after my equipment too

Ah fair does, i was about to say my 7 month ones are still fine. Shame Sony are so shit about customer service

I have been through a few pairs too.
In the end I changed to Sennheisers HD25 and haven't had any problems with them yet.
But as Freak mentioned in a post a while back, they do hammer the ears more. My ears feel way more tired after the Senns compared to Sonys.

It's good to hear that Pioneer take their products seriously and too bad that Sony don't.

Cheers
Nem

nem, check your emails- dont know if you received them

I took someone's advice and purchased mdr-v6's instead of the 700s...had them for 2 years and they have been sturdy as hell

Posted by DannyO on Jun-29-2004 23:22:

Good to hear, I ahte companies screwing people over.
My next pair is either gonna be the HDJ1000s, HD25, HD280 or maybe the MOS DJ1001 (I think thats the one).

Anyway so far so good with my 700s, oh and has anyone seen in the HTFR mag they advertise the 700s now saying they have a "New & Improved" joint, is this true or are Sony bullshiting people to buy them?.

Posted by Freak on Jun-29-2004 23:25:

Yes i saw that a month ago.
Same picture as the old one- and the bird on the phone last time i ordered from them couldnt elaborate as to the change

its too late anyway- theyve pissed off too many customers who have gone elsewhere.

i know there is a one year warranty here in the states on the HDJ1000's, but how do i prove it? my headband on the thing is all messed up... think i can just bring it into a store and demand a new pair?

Warranties require proof of date of purchase AKA receipt.

Good to hear pioneer is supporting their product. I've been tossing around the idea of getting some hdj's, but the stories of cracking have put me back. But since it now sounds like they have a stock 2 year warranty (if I'm not mistaken) and pioneer won't give you shit about replacing them, I may just do that.

A bit off topic, but for those of you who've used both, do you think it would be worth getting a pair of hdj's, or should I stick with my mdr v7506? I've heard the HDJ has a boomier sound (not as nice a quality though, of course), which I'd imagine would help me to beatmatch at a lower volume. The MDR are nice and clear, but I have to turn them up further to hear the beats more clearly, and my ears are getting tired in them.

Ya what do you guys think about the HDJ's i'm trying to deciede between them the HD280Pros HD25's so any feedback on those three would be great.

mine sony 700 still good after 2 years been using it. only with bodypaint that kinda faded away

Posted by sigmanova on Jul-05-2004 08:52:

hate to barge in, but i need some feedback on my Sennheiser HD-280's

they are cracking a tad on the right side of the headband, and i think that in a month these are gonna crack...

i've had it for almost 11 months now, so it should still be under warranty, but i bought them brand new off Ebay so i dont know if Sennheiser will accept that...

any suggestions?

Posted by dknylady on Jul-05-2004 20:58:

after having them for about a year and a half, about a month ago the right cup died on my hdjs...but only 3 weeks after i had got them, something came loose near where the band extends and the leather cover came out of the plastic near the cup, so it was just hangin around.

anyway i called pioneer, sent them back, and 3 weeks later i got a new pair.

Well, I love my HD-280's. Nice 'phones.

I was gonna buy the hdj1000, they didn't have them so I bought a sony mdr-v700 instead. Sounds goog for now
