Evil1 Black Entertainment Televsion

Anyone who has anything to say, please do. But as for me, I'm black and i hate B.E.T. You know "Black Entertainment Television". It's horrible. To me it makes a mockery of everything that black people have worked so hard for by promoting ignorance and stupidity through the celebration of "music" and commercialized black culture. The "thug" mentality, the "ho" mentatlity, the money can do everything mentality and many other stereotypical issues although not started by B.E.T. are incoporated and incubated on this channel to grow and further hinder the intellectual growth of not just black people, but people in general. Not to mention, it's kind of ironic that, black people have struggled for at least two centuries to avoid special treatment yet, we have a channel that is specially dedicated to us. And not the whole view of us, not the well educated inventors, not the genius mathematicians, not the cultured diplomats or even the people that are making a substantial tribute to society but the ignorant poeple like Lil Jon who say "Yeah!" and "What!" in a song and it goes platinum. As much of a hip hop fan as I am, B.E.T. has to go.

I'm sorry, i'm a little mad, and probably a bit cliche, but come on people.

I see it and im white. ALOT of the white youth in high schools in Vancouver here are taking in the lifestyle, rich or poor, doesnt matter, alot of them seem to think that there thugs n shit. To each his own, but when they actually start talking black and calling each other "nigga" (no offence anyone) thats when its just fucking pathetic. I could run down a list of countless kids Ive met at highschool who are complete fakes. They see that the big craze nowadays, is to be a thug, with all the bitches and cash...Its not just B.E.T., its MTV, Much Music, the fucking radio, and most of all, todays mainstream rappers, hiphopers, thugs, all of them contribute to the whole scene somehow. Now before trance, I used to listen to ALOT of hiphop and i mean ALOT. I actually started embrassing the culture, the clothes, the music, everything, my life actually started going downhill. I actually fetl worse about my self then i ever have. Now its not the musics fault, just like a crackhead cant blame crack for where he is, its all about choice. But crack helps you go downhill, same with the music, it kinda guided me down the road. Who am I to compare hip hop culture to crack. But how can all these black people, in the mainstream hiphop, who dress the same, produce uncreative and unimaginative beats, that all sound the same. The lyrics are practicly the about all the same negative bullshit.
Wow Im black (or any race) and I have money, respect (actually respect from fear), lots of women, and Im signed to a premo record label. But now what....?
Are you going to spend your prescious life acting like something that your not, following others as they grow more aggressive (yes Ive found all the music does is pump me up, and make me feel agressive, thats what the whole point, i find, of the music anywas) yes in highschool you might make more friends and such, but what happens when your put of school? Usually kids drop the act and get on with there lifes, but the stupid ones keep it up and just completely lose themselfs in this bullshit. 1. Get a fucking life. 2. Leave us who have lifes alone and stop picking fights (from experiance). 3. Stop pretending your something your not. 4. Cant't you make the music, without creating such negative thoughts and lifestyle influences, your bringing all the normal people with you. 5. How can these people make such music and get respect from it? The lyrics range form "nigga", to Fuck, to bitch to ho, to money to drugs to thugs to YEAH to What. Put those ingredients in, and your now a famous mainstream rapper with a nice house, and 100,000,000 loyal mainly youth-followers. Good luck..

just letting of some steam here, and if anyone takes offence of any words i used, they can PM me and bitch there

I agree bro BET makes a mockery of Black culture dats why eyes watch...

Posted by NomadaNare on Jun-30-2004 01:09:

I agree with you twisted, and i can live with that because there some things u just can't change, crackheads are always gonna do crack and people are always gonna be ignorant. Yes it is the scene nowadays, but what makes me so mad is that B.E.T. claims to be for black people, it says to be made by our own, its supposedly trying to help us get places, and instead it just hold us down (in us i mean black people). It's is so obviously the sheep in wolf's clothing and yet people don't realize it. Many people talk about "The Man" holding us down, and then they go home and watch B.E.T. without realizing it's run by a white guy trying to make money.

Posted by sharpeye00 on Jun-30-2004 01:09:

nomadanare, you may be on to something. perhaps less pimp daddies/macks and more ladies? i do realise it does not portray black culture as that well which is why they should change the name of the channel GET (Gangsta Entertainment Television)

But dont get me wrong, i enjoy a good booty shakin now and again; and BET is the place to go. my gf's mom thinks i'm weird that i watch that, yet she sits there and watches it with me lol. quality television right there.

Lol preach on brother man.

Anyways, Im white and I hate BET. Small world.

Posted by mto on Jun-30-2004 01:15:

I agree with the thread starter. Ya know, today I was watching "Spoke n Heard" on MTV and the guest was Lenny Kravitz. Well, Kravitz, who i think makes good music, was talking about how he was in his native New York (i think he said Brooklyn was the area, not sure) and how 2 black males approached him and asked "Why do you do the white people's music?"

Now how unaducated and ignorant is that? Very, and the reason is the mainstream hip-hop influence. Its so much bullshit, BET, MTV, they all need to go away along with the FM stations. We need channels that feed history along with diversity.

Now, about the white boys acting black.. Well thats here to stay. I mean take a look at your homie Eminem for example and do this. Take the interview that Em did with Kurt Loader for MTV in 1999 titled 'Emerging Artists' I believe. Well take that and put it in your left hand along with his first album and his indy album, and then take any of the new D12 material, material on Obie Trice's record, and 50cent's, along with some taped interviews he has done in last 6 months and COMPARE!! HE WAS SO WHITE WHITE WHITE IN THE BEGINNING. His accent cant even be compared to how he used to talk, his usage of words in his lyrics are different and more G'd out, and even his image has seen a major change. Here is a caucasian wearing do-rags 24/7 and what for?!?! He sure as hell wont get nappy hair and his tape up was never that great so that he has to worry about it gettin messed up. What i'm trying to say is that, white boys... white boys are very very attracted to the whole thug appeal. They think they can be better than the preps, tougher than the jocks, and cooler than the rockers. Its all bullshit. I wanna see them go to Queen's Bridge and talk G'd out to Cormega. Fuckin' slape in the face.

I havent watched BET in a while and I only used to watch it for music videos occassionally but those videos are now played on MTV and other channels....right now I dont even have cable, not much of a TV person to begin with....but MAN O MAN! those corny movies they used to show on Sundays were really cheezy...bad acting, low budget and bad plot.

Posted by Zenchowdah on Jun-30-2004 02:47:

theres a local rapper around here, J Lin. Heh, actually, funny story. He got in a car accident and collected a huge settlement from it, and now walks with a permanent pimp limp and cane against his will, and use the money from the settlement to launch his 'career'. anyways, theres this one song he wrote that i think sums up all that hip hop is about, its called "Sex, Drugs, Money and Bitches". Deep lyrics, there, i tell ya. also, a cop around here got shot in the eye, made big local news. he felt it was necesary that he "fuckin hates cops, and he got what he deserved." i like hip hop, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Jedi Mind Tricks, even as far as Sticky Fingaz and a lil Eminem, but i dont think its really necesary to come right out and say that you think cops need to be shot. also i think that people agreeing with him, and trying to get others to hear J Lin's "message" is absurd.

Sorry everyone but this is gonna be a long post:
Yeah, I see what you are sayin NomadaNare. I am black and see where you are comming from. It is true that in the present black lifestyle seems to have been made a mockery of. However, you can't just place the blame on BET, you have to place the blame on society. If you really take a deep look at the world, esp. in the US, black culture is fragrantly displayed like that on all major networks and media forms. Look at MTV, films, and radio. MTV, films like "Soul Plane", and shows like "Method and Red" on fox display the exact same elements and sterotypes that you are against. This is primarily due to society and its ways. The media networks are only going to display what people will buy. Meaning that as long as society keeps eating up these elements, the media networks are gonna keep feeding. The media are gonna keep dishing it out cause they are all about financial consumption and are trying to make money. As far as your comment that these elements are leading to the "further hindering of the intellectual growth of not just black people, but people in general," this may be true, but it is only because those people are buying into it. Just because it exist does not mean that you will fall victim to it.

Also I gotta dissagree with you on
quote:
Not to mention, it's kind of ironic that, black people have struggled for at least two centuries to avoid special treatment yet, we have a channel that is specially dedicated to us
Frankly, I don't see any irony in this. I see that throuout history African Americans, and other minorities as well, have been made into "second hand" entertainers on major televiison networks. Until recently, i.e. the 80's, minorities have not been given chances to be primary entertainers on major networks, I guess there was Sanford and Son in the 70's and I love Lucy (Desi Arnaz) in the 50's but, really there have not been a lot of opportunties. So to combat this a channel, BET, was created by Robert Johnson, where African-American entertainers could have a beter opportunity. However, you are right about one thing, in the present the channel has turned to display the stereotypes you, and unfortuantely little of sociey are against. And the reason for this is... you guessed... it money, and where does the money come from... you also guessed it.. the fact that society keeps buying into it. I dunno I kinda feel that currently a lot of the sterotypes in society are leading to its degredation because of the want for money. I dunno, this is just my opinion. Peace people, and while I'm here...get out and vote.

Posted by mndeg on Jun-30-2004 03:17:

blame it on capitalism, whatever brainwashes the masses and earns money
at least black people have TONS and TONS of positive media portrayals even though realistically inaccurate, black doctors and stuff like that where in real life there are tons of indian doctors

in asian male cant even get a movie role unless hes doing karate, a bad guy, or some kind of nerd role, he also never gets the girl

edit: but the thing is even though you don't like BET the majority of black people my age love BEt and everything on it (mainstream rap)
in fact, i don't know a black person that doesn't listen to rap who's not old

Posted by NinetyNinety on Jun-30-2004 03:19:

My 2 cents:

I think that actually, black people dress like that, talk like that and act like that (animals shooting each other, always talking and laughing their loudest, always looking for a nasty look or suspicious laughter to yell at you and pull out their gun, etc...) as a way to "prove" white people that they are meaner, badder and stronger. This is all because they were repressed for such a long period in history, that now they feel this urge to turn the game around.

I'm not used to live around black people, but everytime I go to the states (around 5 times per year) I always see black people drees more like clowns and less like civilized people. How do they expect white people to "respect" them when they are dressed as attention whores (all the bling-bling, enormous XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL jerseys, shirts and pants, etc.) Their attitude is a "someone's trying too damn hard" attitude. In another area, their music and videos also tries to hide their insecurities behind luxurious pimped-out cars, tons of gold around each brotha's neck, and negative lyrics. They do not longer search for nice, talented songs...

Anyhoo, I'm not saying that all black men and women are like these, but, as all of you have already said, that's the mayority of afro-americans that we're talking about. But, anyway, to each his own...

Posted by NomadaNare on Jun-30-2004 03:21:

It just pisses me off to see things this way. It makes no sense to argue with you EssentialMix3r, because we agree. We could (and i mean everybody)be doing so much more if would just cut through the bullshit. I shouldn't target just B.E.T. because it is not the only culprit, but it seems if not at the forefront, that it plays at least a minor role in facilitating and repackaging the bullshit.

Posted by twisted on Jun-30-2004 03:30:

NomadaNare i couldnt be on your side any more about this. i actually lost a couple friends when i stopped listening rap. those fucks disowned me like a jizz towel. just because my musical preferance. ITS BULLSHIT!!!
