(what are) the many genres of electronica
i was wondering.... what are the different genres/styles. There are so many, so how can you tell the differences between the genres. Here is how i like to look at it.
It starts with what i like to call a super-genre which in this case would be electric/electronic/electronidca.
After this comes the genres. for example: trance, house, techno, etc.
then comes the sub genres. These would be Acid trance, Hard House, etc.
Finally is what i like to call the nano genres. These nano-genres classify a genre or subgenre with a style. Example: Chicago Style Hard House.
Does that make sense? How can you tell the differences though?
Also what kinds of music do you like?

Have fun, and read the disclaimers!
I myself use labels as a means of convenient access and easy classifcation. But by no means do I use them to box in the music I enjoy. I listen to a wide variety of electronic and non-electronic music, as I love diversity.

I I I am at alost for words for this site
its a decent guide but this ishkur guy seems like kindof a prick... he is too opinionated and seems to dislike the electronic genre more than like it, consideing 90 percent of what he says is kind of pessimistic. He may be knowledgable but he still seems like a little bit of a choch bag.
i quote ishkur's guide "Let it be said that electronic music NEVER learns how to "leave the audience wanting more". Instead, like a spoiled, immature little child, it shamelessly and greedily exploits any whiff of success it sees, to cartoonish extremes."
i rest my case. This guy can eat the two foot long duece i dropped the other day. He's a striaght-up ass. How can he say that when there are huge venues like gatecrashers with the biggest DJs/producers in the world who leave the crowd want nothing BUT more. Wow...
all i can use his guide for is finding more great artists and maybe learn a history lesson here and there.
I KNOW im not the first person to think this guy is a douche nozzle.
He posts here on Tranceaddict...

thats good... i want him to know what i think of him. He puts down too many kinds of music. Instead of imbrasing ALL great electronic music, he said good things about only a few subgenres. It's his opinion and im not putting his opinion down, but i dont think he should try to put down so music. The guide is great to find what music comes from where and to hear some examples, but all of his explanations are all of his opinion rather than fact. Rather than giving info about the genre, he pretty much just says how much he hates it and why.
JUST EXPLAIN THE GENRE, ITS SOUND, AND ITS CONNECTION. NAME A FEW NOTABLE FIGURES IN THE GENRE AND BE DONE WITH IT. too much hate for the music, not enough embrase.
And dont be mad at me. Im only 16 and it just so happens that I am quite the opinionated asshole too.

Don't take the guide too seriously :P
Remember, read the disclaimer
man, you are like 6 months late with this flaming ishkur thing. it's not cool anymore. we all love him now.
People do not, as Ish presumptuously claims, "always agree with [him] eventually." But most do come to respect him and his efforts while still being able to disagree. You, in all likelihood, will, too.
And good lord, 16? Be a bit more humble and openminded. You have a long way to go and much to learn. I say that only because I was 16 not too long ago myself.

i respect his efforts. it is a ton of work he did... i just think that the way he put a lot of his veiws forward were assholish. Also, after i read the disclaimer I lost a little anger, so i take back most of the things i said in my second and third posts.... Anyway, this is a thread about the many styles of electronic music; not about how much we love or hate ishkur.
Ishkur's guide is cool. Screw the genres tho, listen to whatever u like homie. Don't think coz u like a song from a certain genre that u wont like a song from another genre.
he put together a great guide, just don't take any of his opinions to heart. Find out what music you like by yourself, and this guide is amazing
Obviously a lot of people here love trance of all types, but don't get mad at the guy for not liking the same type of music as you.
Ishkur = teh funny
its not like that....
like i said, i just think that a guide to music should contain useful information on the subject, not his opinions. or atleast let him leave his opinions at the bottom. I mean how would you feel if someone who know NOTHING about electronic music stumbled upon that guide. THat person would then have the idea that electronic music is all crap. I say Ish should atleast make a guide containing more knowledge and less hate. I dont care if he hates what i like. Where i live, thats pretty much how it is all around me... but he should just make a guide containin useful info...
do you guys understand what im gettin at yet?
i can't wait to see Ishkur's reply to this thread.
You realise that stuff in those boxes is just something interesting to read while the samples play? The information is all in how the genres link togethor, and in the samples. The text tells you a bit of funny and interesting crap, but you really shouldn't get offended by what he says.
Why the hell shouldn't he voice his opinions? Ishkur went to the time and effort of making the fucking thing and researching it, so he can say whatever he wants. Quite frankly there's hardly anything else on the Internet like it, so you should be thankful, not bitching because his opinion doesn't coincide with your flawed view on music.
