EWWWW! I just drank expired MILK!!!

These damn ******s at the cafeteria in the office building have expired Hersheys Chocolate Milk and the USE by date is June 27. I drank half the bottle before I realized it. They gave me a new unexpired one but I dont know if I should drink it.

Posted by Greedy on Jun-30-2004 14:42:

Dunno

Yea, it was chocolate milk...so it tasted normal to me. Then I was on hold on the phone and bored so I started reading the nutritional chart on the bottle and there it was....the date! I hope I dont get sick.

Posted by klingklang77 on Jun-30-2004 14:52:

you shouldnt get sick. usually that date is for the stores, so they take it off the shelf by then. as long as it smelled ok and didnt taste funny, you should be good. the date doesnt mean that on that date it suddendly goes off or turn sour. i believe it could even go another day or two, probably.

i dont know about milk tho.. maybe one day but if it said 27th.. thats like 3 days overdue.. but i dont think you'd get seriously ill or anything.

Posted by Greedy on Jun-30-2004 14:58:

as long as the milk doesnt taste sweet and aint chunky, youre good to go. If you dont notice anything different about the taste, you most likely wont get sick. . . .mebbe get a case of the runs. . . .

Posted by euphoria on Jun-30-2004 14:58:

I dunno June 27 was the USE by date.

Posted by Vlad on Jun-30-2004 15:33:

Dont be such a baby...

Honestly... how do these mad scientists even know when the expiration date is? When they milk the cows, do they whisper "June 6"? You wont die, dont worry.

Posted by madhattared on Jun-30-2004 15:33:

atleast it wasn't stinky cheese?

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Jun-30-2004 15:41:

YOUR GONNA DIE IN 7 DAYS!!!

Posted by DR86 on Jun-30-2004 16:38:

heh. that sucks. don't worry about it, you won't get sick. cheese is really just fermented milk so it can't be so bad...right??
uh-oh....

These dates include WIDEEEEEEEEEEE margin errors. Meaning they are well aware that people will go over so they put earlier dates and such.

With milk you can go past the date by a couple ( say one or two maybe more ) weeks and you'll be fine for the most part. ( well if you've had the milk opened for 2 weeks it might already be bad days before the expiry date :P )

One trick some of you may not know, when you buy some highly perishable items ( fruit, vegetables, juice, milk and such ) ALWAYS get the stock that's at the bottom of the lot; it'll be the one that'll last the longest.
Stores tend to rotate their displayed stock and always keep the oldest items on top ( that is if the shelf stocking person does their job properly .... )

Posted by trancEyes22 on Jun-30-2004 18:12:

sell by and drink by are different...i thought you could drink like 5 days after the sell by date. i never do just cuz i'm really weird with food/milk but you should be ok..

Posted by BitchBoyNYC on Jun-30-2004 18:30:

It's nothing to worry about Z. You might get a little gas from it, but not more than that. Plus, if it didn't taste sour, chances are it wasn't "rotten" or anything.

Posted by variableS on Jun-30-2004 19:09:

It also depends on how cold the milk was stored at. I once had a gallon go a whole week past the sell by date, and it was still good.

though I did drink a lot of milk in a short period of time...

Posted by phoenixBEBE on Jun-30-2004 21:04:

hello, Z? did u make it thru the day okay?

Posted by Greedy on Jun-30-2004 21:06:

that's for safety rules so that supermarkets and such dont get their asses sued by customers as well- the milk usually can go a lil beyond that. besides, if you didn't smell funky shit or taste sour ish, then you're fine dude.

And the conclusion is....I am alive...the milk tastes like chocolate, if everyone read the first post it was chocolate milk so all I tasted was chocolate. To make a long story short I was at work and made countless excursions to the ladies room. I feel better now though.
