Please help with a recording/sound card question

OK, so there is a bunch of posts here but I didn't see one that specifically related to what I wanted to accomplish. It's pretty simple actually....I would like to record a set from my mixer into a computer. I usually use either Sound Forge or Cool Edit, and my mixer is a Pioneer DJM-300. I have a couple of computers and would eventually like to buy a laptop specifically for recording, so I would figure that an external sound card/USB station would be my best bet for the flexibility that I would need for both my current and future situations. Are there some recommendations out there?

Have a look at the M-Audio ones. There are better ones out there obviously but I don't really see the need for a hi-end interface.

i dont trust usb for audio much..i might be completely wrong though. ive just read that usb can be problematic and firewire is much better- thats why i bought a motu 828 because its firwire and multi-input, exactly what i needed because when i go to college, i'll have a laptop that i can jsut plug it into and go from there. but for just recording sets, a motu might be overkill for you.

m-audio makes some firwire interfaces too, ive heard that they're pretty good, you should check em out as an alternative to usb too.

edit: novation makes a USB one too, not sure if its any good, but i love novation synthesizers and they're really well built.
