Dog Running David Deep - On Reflection [Prog-Trance]

I really like this! definately something different for these forums. Some of these little synths are really sweet & I love the deep bass, could maybe do with fattening up a tad.

The kick is a tad weak for the track, but I like the percs and I already mentioned the clap to you

The 'chime' main synth is bliss, love it.

Definately your best work Mike, some of the production elements could be tightened up, but that'll come with time.

Good listening

This track flows very nicely from the start, really seems to drift along nicely. Very chilled and etheral sounding! Can't really expand upon whats already been said in terms of production. This is very encouraging!

Also, I think the title couldn't be any more perfect for this track! For some reason it reminds me of water, I just imagine ripples/reflections etc.

Nice , little different style ... yeahh. Main lead (bells) are maybe little too loud imho. MK-S -> water for me -> fozen water reminds me some fairytale with icecastles and stuff. Good track.

tis alright
melody is fairly cool
kick needs sorting though
the breakbeat bit works fairly well, and would work better with a different kick
well played

Read This!

Well I have to say this is excellent stuff Mike mate! Flows brilliantly throughout. The bass is deep, but as George said, maybe not fat enough. Stillmate this is fantabulous Nice work,

Shep

not a huge fan of this one, bass is very simple and doesnt flow with the beat, i think its over all a bit too simple and there isnt enough going on to keep us entertained. work on the bass. kick and perc are ok, but try adding some stereo definition to the percs, everything is central at the mo and its very dull and ordinary. i like the effects at the start, and the pad. I like the break to, but could definately do with some work. has some very nice ideas, but i think it could do with some touching up, and add some more elements to it, i think some frequencies clip in the track to, try to fix that, mike

Posted by The Drow on Jul-01-2004 16:50:

It's ok.
It's not the best I have heard.
Needs alot of mastring.
The break is good.
nice try 5/10.

Posted by DRM on Jul-01-2004 17:14:

Wow thanks for all the praise from people im well chuffed and glad most of you enjoyed it. I've fixed the kick, it had far too much compression on it. Not sure wot im gonna do with the bassline to improve but i'll have a mess

The Drow, any bits in particualar u can point out to improve the mastering on?

Posted by noikeee on Jul-02-2004 18:00:

i liked it, has an original feel to it, don't think i've heard anything very similar

the bit i don't like much is the high strings/bells thing that enters at 4:32, the melody is ok, but the instrument is not so good imo

Posted by Bren-F on Jul-04-2004 02:11:

Quality mate,

Really dreamy atmosphere in the track - great stuff

Posted by JamieShanley on Jul-11-2004 09:56:

This has got a nice floatey feel to it, I'm a big fan of prog-trance. But I can't help feeling there's something missing from it - i don't think its a stand-out track. However I've listened to it 3 times now and it definitely grows on you...

Posted by Jay M on Jul-11-2004 11:29:

Dreamy track. That high bell, and the hihats as well, are a bit too present. The kick could use some more lowend. You could've used some other synths, I only hear bells, a bass and some string.

Overall not bad, but needs some mastering and changes IMO.

love that gnashing bass that enters at 1:28 and goes on and on, it really underpins the tune, and especially it provides a lush counterpoint to the chime lead.

nice!

Posted by DRM on Jul-11-2004 16:16:

thanks again for the feedback guys happy u could all enjoy. still a little confused cuz i get conflicting reviews on the bass and the chime lead, some like and some dont hehe guess that ones just a judgement call.

Jay M, the arped plinky sound that comes in with the bass was supposed to be the counter melody to the chime, guess u passed it off as an extra bassline tho.

im really pleased with the feedback on this tho considering its my first attempt at prog trance. there is another similar style track in the pipeline

good effort, a nice product. only thing would be the bass from one minute, it sound a bit unrounded to me, like it strings out a bit to much rather than being a "wob wob"

Really enjoyed this even though I'm not a big fan of the style. Good to hear hear something different like this. Flows really well - nice atmosphere. Maybe a few extra little percs would help, but apart from that good work!!

(See, I told ya I'd reply eventually! )

Posted by JayD on Jul-14-2004 20:24:

OK work man. You have some good idea's that will help you out in the future. I say keep working on the track, or if you get bored with it, some different stuff.. And when your ready try re-doing it (mastering, levels & ect need alot of work).

One of the good aspects of this song is your bass. What did you use? You did a good job with that.
