Help a midi newb
I have a Korg MS2k synth, im using cubase as a sequencer, now when I play something on the synth cubase records it as just a regular ole piano sound, not what the synth actually sounds like. Can someone please explain this to me?? I dont want the regular piano sound, I want the sound from the synth.
You are recording midi. Midi does not sound like anything. What you are hearing is the soundcard's wavetable synth. After you have recorded the notes, you need to set the output of that channel to the Korg. The notes will then be played out of the midi out in to the MS2000, then the audio should go out of the MS and to the speakers/soundcard in. If you don't have it hooked up correctly, then it won't work. You need to have the midi out on the computer hooked up to the midi in on the MS2k.

Well now I got the correct sound, to go back to the korg becuase it plays the midi not in head phone's which are hooked up to it. Now how do I continue to make the sound go from the korg through the cpu speakers?
Are you using Cubase? You need to run the audio outs of the Korg into your soundcard. Then activate "direct monitoring" (the orange button next to the record button) on the midi channel that is sending the midi notes. At least I think that is right, I use a mixer so I've never had to use direct monitoring.
