Steve Porter - Homegrown Ep

The highly anticipated EP from Steve Porter is finally available, and from the man responsible for "vodka cranberries" and "definite form" comes four sweet progressive cuts.

After a few listens i give this ep a high 8/10 primarily on the basis of the crisp production that Porter delivers. The sounds used are compareable to his Agent 101 work, more progressive house, with melody and a BPM count that stays close to the 125-128 mark.

It's a little disappointing that none of the tracks stand out above anything else the prolific Porter has produced in the past, having said that, Beats n Potatoes is easily one of the most infectious new songs i have heard.

For those who follow the type of music played by Sasha, Diggers, Fortier and Porter himself, grab this EP as soon as you can...with that I'm out.

I've heard the samples on releaserecords.com, and all tracks sounded pretty tight! I'll be on the lookout for this on during my next trip to the recordstore...

only heard the first two tracks, but i like lady elaine better of the two, really nice, i wish he would return to the style he did "the return" in, that song was fuckin brilliant, or deported and alphabeat soup

I've heard all four of the tracks and I have to say that Purina is the best track on the EP and Square Dancing follows second. Both would fit nicely into a progressive set and have the grooves for the dancefloor. However, I wasn't really into Lady Elaine or Beat N Potatoes all that much. They sound a little bit too experimental for my tastes, but still very tight production nonetheless.

Coming from a massive Steve Porter fan, I would recommend the EP. The deep, dark "steelmill" sound (as I call it) that Porter is known for is not here (ie Sensor, Deported). Instead, lush and more floatier synths and melodies are used, which gives each track funk and dancefloor appeal. I give it 8.5/10. Can't wait to hear EP #2 and the full Homegrown album.

Arguably Steve's finest work to date. Purina and Square Dancing are pure bliss yet punchy and driving, just like prog should be, but way too few releases nowadays dare to be. Have to hear the others now.

Well I don't know much about Porter's music but I just heard Beat n Potatoes and I am taken away by the melody. I love this song. I need to hear the rest of the songs on this EP now, hopefully they are as good as this one.
