Forrest fires in B.C.

Wow, I was just watching the news, and I really had no idea how serious it is this year. We have now over-doubled the amount of forrest fires butrning at this time then we did last year. We really have to start taking care people. I've been hearing stories about stupid fucking people throwing thier cigarette butts out the window and starting fires. Do peopl ereally have "NO BRAINS"? I know that a mojority of these fires are natural, but these retarded people think they are immune or something because they live in the cities.

This is very serious and I hope that everyone is doing thier part to help protect our envirnoment and this beautiful province. Not sure what's happening in Alberta or the states, but it's completely out of control now.

# of fires this time last year - 534
# of fires burning in BC right now - 1059

the storms earlier this week are the main cause :/

I drove right through the path of destruction last year.

I dont know if numbers gives the right picture
3 of those fires last year were amazingly massive areas and burned out of control all year long.

in fact I read on (I think it was CBC webpage) that the fire went down into the peat/root system of trees, lived under the snow all winter as embers and re emerged this year.

but yes...we need to educate people how 'we' start fires.
cigarettes, bottles etc.
never mind the fact they start fires, why would you toss em out the window anyways?

I just got back from camping this weekend near Indian Arm (via Squamish). A few people/Fire Wardens came by to ask about/tell us about the campfire ban that's on right now.
I think most people are smart enough to read a sign/listen to somebody and respect a ban, but it only takes 1 jackass to start a big one.

no not exactly. Fires are mostly started by lightning.

I just got back from Creston where I was enjoying a beautiful weekend. It pains me everytime to hear about fires. Really to me, BC is so beautiful and i hope i end up retiring there when im older. Fires are brutal.

BC is becoming a Forest Fire Heaven, soon no ones gonna be able to have camp fires in the summer , Coming from Kelowna i know what its like , I had a few buddies houses burnt down last summer. At which were $500,000 or more. So remember all you smokers out there ! dont throw your butts out your car window! infact, you shouldnt be smoking at all! only the greenary

camping without a camp fire? now thats just wrong. but i do understand it is neccessary to help control/prevent more fires.

im not going to say that all forest fires are bad, because lets face it, they are a natural part of our eco system. Forest fires happen, and sometimes they NEED to take place, except when its started by a butt.

Sometimes i feel humans go too far in trying to control nature. But then i see that we damadge it more than we help, so we must try and protect it, the best we can.

^^ Yeah, camping without a fire kinda sucks. But it's better than no camping at all.

+1 for sure.

Last time we went camping we use a mosquito candle as our fire. Whatever we were all ripped out of our trees.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Yes, finally some rain. As shitty as the weather seems to some people, we really needed this!

ironically, i was camping over the weekend and the ranger gave us free firewood.

is the campfire ban all over bc or just in some areas?
