Shut it, yakitori

No, they're not making fun of themselves: they're pretending they go to foreign countries and do practical jokes with the poor little gaijins, telling them to do "all sort of weird stuff" as if they didn't do it in Japan

The fact that you speak Japansese (and lives in Japan) is the actual reason why you may not have got the joke. Put yourself in the shoes of a foreigner who goes to a Japansese restaurant and learns how to use hashis and eats food with exotic names like "sushi", "tempura".... then imagine that in Japan it's not like this at all (that you guys eat the same way we do, the same food we do,...), and the reastaurant owners do it with the clients as a practical joke. Ta-da

I know jokes aren't funny when you explain them, but this is the background you should have for understanding this one. I guess you need to be a gaijin to get the essence, as I myself have been "victim" of a similar prank (my friends forced me to eat with chopsticks using my right hand, saying that even though I'm left handed, it was considered impolite to eat with my left hand - I later found out this is not true at all... them bastards, my wrist hurt ).

I think it was funny. I love Japanese food (especially sushi, tempura, etc.) and having eaten a lot of it, I thought it was hilarious. Good find.
