Question WEMF Questions for R.J., Rich, Margaret, Mike & Jenna

I am really thinking about going to WEMF for the first time this year, and was wondering if all of you guys are going for sure? Also have you bought your tickets yet, and if so did you get the 2, or 3 day pass? Moreover, is there any advise you can give to someone going for the first time (e.g, thinks to bring, and things that you should definitively not bring)? Thanks

P.S Mike, I'm still waiting for the titles of those books that you mentioned, I'm curious to read them.

yes, we are all going for sure. yes, we all have our tickets. I believe we all have 3 day passes (but I'm not sure). Mike, Jenna and RJ are renting a hotel room around there which I'm still waiting for the name of to see if they have openings. As far as bringing things, I would bring the same sort of stuff that you would to any camping trip, minus the heavy duty knives and weapons. Read through the WEMF thread and some people go through things you can bring.

I have bought my tickets (early bird) and am staying at a hotel in Wasaga.

If you're staying on site - just bring camping gear, but nothing too flashy as I understand theft has been a problem the last few years (perhaps a little lock to lock the zippers of the tent would be good). Lock anything of value in your car.

Bring enough money for food, water, etc. The ground can be amazingly uncomfortable to sleep on - bring proper padding - as sleep is a requirement.

Other than that, be safe, be smart, have uber-fun!

There are a load of hotels in Wasaga - they're all the same distance from WEMF.

Just call around.

Only problem with camping is that there are NO trees for shade so if you like sleeping during the day in a tent that will be VERY hot then get a motel room. And as RJ stated here, there are people who go to WEMF for the sole purpose of stealing. I opted to book a motel room in Wasaga this year and I hope to see all the TAs @ WEMF...

For the record, I've never had anything stolen and been to 4 or 5 WEMFs.

Camping is fun!

We had some booze taken from our cooler last yr, but we didn't give a shit. If it were really important we coulda locked it up in the car.

Yes, god-damn it!!! It's sooooooooo much more fun when you camp! If you don't plan on sleeping, there's no point in getting a hotel.

We had all of our chairs stolen in Bobcageon... At least 6-8 of them!!! It's really sad... We learned our lesson though. If you're leaving your site.. LOCK everything up Other than that ONE incident, I've attended 4 WEMF's and have had no other problems.

Don't forget folks WEMF has security wandering around keeping watch of things too - and I suspect the venue this year will ensure things are much more orderly as well.

Come to think of it - I've had stuff stolen in provincial campgrounds but never @ WEMF.

I'd thought about this too....but like others have said, lock shit in the car if it's valuable, and re: the heat...that's a bit of a bummer too, but I figure I can deal with it.

Hey liquidchick! I haven't seen you on TA in ages. Still live in the Hammer? I'll be heading up from here too.

I went to WEMF a few years ago (at Sauble Beach) and we had no problems with things being stolen, even though nothing was ever locked up, just left inside our tents....having said that....the biggest problem was the security...at least when i was there, it seems they were out to make some extra cash off the peeps, or score some treats for themselves. We got busted rolling a joint and the baggie had some hash in there as well....they figured pot was not of much interest to them, however hash was harder to come by or something, so they "seized" the good stuff and left us the the remaining goodies. Needless to say we were not impressed! Also, I heard some other scary stories that went down during wemf, that year as well in previous ones, so for all girls especially, please be careful, don't wonder around the tent area alone late at night...no matter how safe you think these PLUR events are, there will always be those few that manage to ruin it for the rest of the groovers. Cheers

Drugs are illegal and cause liability issues for security and promoters - thus confiscating such items is necessary.

A hotel is alright if you reealy need your sleep, but to me getting a hotel room just wouldn't feel right. I like being where the action is!!

Same here... maybe it's because of the company with me. Our campsite is usually occupied for the most part so when we do leave ppl tend to stay away because they might think that we'll be back any moment... could be wrong, but that's my theory at least.

Is that a race track I see??? Who's up for a race???!!

Posted by Kosmicfairy on Jul-09-2004 12:00:

of course i realize drugs are illegal, but i was trying to make a point about the sketchy security that i have encountered that was out to snatch those "ilegal" drugs for personal use or profit...that refects very poorly on them, they prolly walk around just as messed as the next guy at these parties...or at least they did when i went.

RJ, of course everyone knows that. But you do realize that's exactly what goes on at every club. They take your drugs and sell them to you inside. You really thing that garbage can at the front of the Guv goes to the garbage?

So like Margaret's story said, why would they confiscate only the hash and not the weed?
