Lange + Dumonde @ Shelter review

Awesome time!
Incredible vibe during Lange's set, which went from 12:30 to 3:30.
Dumonde played from 3:30 to closing at 7:15, and kicked the asses of everyone who stayed.
The layout of the room is very similar to how Arc was.

Just got back. It was my first time at shelter and i thought the place was pretty good. I got lost for like 10 min at first when i first got there lol looking for Lange's room.
Lange was awesome. Did he play Kilimanjaro? i got there a few minutes after he started. Dumonde was even better amazing set except for the end a lil. Didn't like some of the vocal stuff. Yes it did reminded me of arc a bit. Loved how i had space to dance and was digg'n the strobe lights.
Tracklist anyone?

Dunno It sucked!!!

worst club ever i've been to. sound system was horrible and only like 300 people in club. Lange mixing was off little bit and I left right before Dumonde came on. Either way it would suck anyway.

Sorry to hear it sucked. I would have been mad since I'm a huge fan of both.

I know one of them had to play dumonde vs lange - memory or some mix of it since they were both there. Tracklist please?

Dumonde was great. Their set kept me moving all night. The part that sucked was the surprising lack of support from NY. I thought the event would be packed, but that was not the case.

Posted by DJslantzz on Jul-10-2004 17:47:

No way did last night suck.

There are few times when you get to see 2 GREAT acts in one night in NY, with such a comfortable atmosphere as shelter with all the room in the world to dance. I mean Im a big fan of the top DJ's out there, but sometimes going to gigs like this make me remember why i listen to trance music. Reminded me so much of Arc with how the room's layout was.

First of all Lange was great!...He had some technical problems in the beginning of his set it seemed. But he literally owned me for the whole time he spun. Lange played a very melodic set, with some vocals here and there.

Then Dumonde came on at 330, and they brought so much energy into their set. They did play a bit too many anthems in the beginning, but still played some amazing tunes(tracklist of the night anyone?)

Great time hangin out with Chris L., hope u made it to work today. What was that name of that track u told me the name of again??---silence?

ALso Jay I owe u big time for the favor, u def came thru! I still cant believe u were the one last year dancing in Arc's VIP room dancing all over the place

u must be on crack or munching on some bad pills.. sound system was terrible...? lol thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard..those speakers on the main dance floor are directly from twilo.. classic phazons.. bass mids and treble was absolutely crystal..and i dont know if they tweaked it for this event, but it was at a perfect setting for trance..[good amount of bass, clear highs and unmuffled mids so the synths sound clear and alive] if you stood right in the middle of the dance floor, the sound was so amazing i wished more ppl were there instead of in front where the booth is...

musically, Lange played a good set.. it didnt have the perfect flow and his mixing wasnt flawless, but he definitely brought a different style and sound that nyc wasnt used to.. and was great.. mostly instrumental and hard at some points with a few vocals dropped.. it was definitely different from the usual trance jocks we get in nyc.. i dont even have to mention who they are..i think Lange is still growing as a dj and really has the potential to be top notch he has the sound and the ear for it. just needs to sharpen his technical skills and more experience overall in the art of djing..

i left at 5am and DuMonde was really baning it out.. the classic DuMonde style... big kick, and rolling basslines.. the flow they kept was almost techno without the crazy hi hats.. if you were a fan of their style, they sure didnt disappoint... i got there really early[10pm] so by 5am i was really tired and DuMonde's style of tracks were a bit 'forcefull' to my ears.. when i left it was in the middle of their remix of 'Symsonic'.. all in all, very good night.. only thing was that more ppl should have came out.. the peak was about 60% full i'd say and thats being generous.. ok, that'll do. i need to get ready for Fuzion tonight... maybe i'll see some of you there.. peace.

awesome night!

Lange rocked

Dumonde was good as well

my head hurts

This was the best night of music that NYC has seen in a long time. This was the party of the year for me. Both Lange & Dumonde were amazing! 8 Hours non-stop of the hardest, most intense trance tunes ever made. There was never a dull moment. Dumonde played tons of new stuff, but he also played all of his original remixes that were on everyones favorite list between 2001-2003. Stuff that you will never hear in a club again.

Shelter looked bad at first when you first walked inside. There was nothing really special about it. It was a normal size dance floor with average strobes and lights. Throughout the night it started to feel more and more like Arc. The sound and lighting was setup really good in the back of the club. Plenty of room to move around too. If you danced in the right spot, you could really have a great time.

Ill maybe work on a tracklisting later. Both sets were supposedly broadcasted on the radio. I hope somebody recorded them.

great time last night! good seeing a lot of TA's

sound system had a few probs btw cd players and the highs, but the sound tech was literally running from room to room last night due to the rave also being there so he was doing all he could.

I agree with tek tho, on the floor it was bangin...towards the front it was a little weak but again, there were some problems.

Anyways I had fun, Lange and Dumonde KILLED IT and also were very nice to meet and chat with. Also nice to meet Jan Johnson and to see DJ Manolo.

yeah Shelter is sorta ghetto...Ive gone there for raves and whatnot...but Lange and Dumonde were DEF worth coming for AWESOME hard beats, great trance. i was def feelin' their style aiite. anyways it wasnt as packed as i thought it would be, but i loved that i had room to st0mp all over da place heehee Sound system was pretty good overall and there was good ventilation in the room Overall a great nite Great to see u TAs that came wish i remembered everyone's usernames tho...i met a jennifer but i dun remember wut her TA username was -=P

i left at 4am -- so i didnt get to hear all of Dumonde ...but what i heard kept me dancin' heheh...i could have stayed n danced till close no doubt but one of my friends got tired. Headed to an afterparty and then went home.

right now i am still tired tho..lazzzy saturday...

great night met a few TA's umm..overall i thought that there was not enough people in club shealter to give that extra boost of energy. But music was definiately good no doubt. i was all over the place. middle to the back of the mainfloor was were the killer bass was and it sounded really good. anyways... i had a greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat ass time.... met a few girls umm... danced like it was 1999 ? haha anways.. nice seeyou NY1004 yo PM me your number. if you see this message or should i just PM u ? ummm...ok let me just PM u..

not to bad of a night. mike did a good job opening things up. lange started out sort of minimal psy trancey stuff and worked his way to some solid anthems. dumonde's set was just anthem after anthem which sort of got boring after a while, but all in all i still managed to have a good time. i agree with tek, the sound system in that room was pretty clean and sweet sounding, you had to go to the back to experience it though. btw nice seeing all the ta's and other people i met, also slantz, that tune was Katana - In silence (Txixtaxaro remix), which def was the tune of the night imho, both lange and dumonde dropped it.

no doubt djslanntzz.. marco V @ arc i will never forget i was goin a lil too crazy that night. I had a great time @ shelter, they should have more trance djs to go over there John 00 Flemming @ shelter would be my dream come true. Its not the nicest of places, but i like the vibe that i got from there right when i entered the place i felt really good and the venue just put a smile on my face, i met some real strange candy/ravers last night and i had a blast talkin with them. A lot of people were from all over the country it was unfortunate that a lot of nytas/nyers were elswhere but at shelter last night. That space on the roof was very chill. i had good vibes all night felt more like a Rave then a clubnight which i never really experienced before. Dam i think every1 was fucked up last night.

my fav track of the night was an OLdie.. I always watned tohear it in a club and Dumonde dropped it like it was hot whaa..

Frank T.r.a.x - Nebuchan

hard epic trance at its best

that bald guy that was in the dj booth looked like joof when i first looked at him i thought it was him but then i looked again and it wasnt lol. neways it was a really good nite. hopefully these guys could come to ny more often cause i really enjoyed thier sets especially dumonde's. me and a couple tas went up into the booth and took a pic with jamX and de leon they are really kool and we stayed up there for a lil bit. i was surprised to see jan johnston there. she is so nice i didnt know what to say to her when liz introduced me to her lol.

classic moment that i will never forget was when a couple of TA's(not gonna name any names) went to the roof and got locked out towards the end of the nite and i had to go and open the door for them hahaha .

I seriously had a great time. I kind of liked how shelter looked. The rooftop was nice, and it was interesting walking around to all the rooms and chillin with the ravers for a lil bit. And the vibe on the main floor was awesome...maybe it was because of all the TA's. And I met some random people who made the trek from DC. I would have to say though that I liked Dumonde's set a lot better than Lange's. Very hard and full of energy. Some tunes from Dumonde's set which Tom helped me ID during the night were:

Cosmic Gate - Bilingual
Dumonde - Kalt or Cold (Original)
Dumonde - God Music (Dumonde mix)
CRW - I Feel Love (Dumonde remix)
Dumonde - Never Look Back
Dumonde - Tomorrow
Dumonde - See The Light
M.U.T.E. - Missed Beat (Lange remix?)
Dumonde vs Lange - Memory (JamX & De Leon mix?)

shit!!! shiittt !! they dropped frank traxx - nebuchan.... awww man. one of my favorite. i aways seem to miss the good parties.

Posted by lazy chick on Jul-12-2004 00:37:

surprisingly, shelter wasn't packed at all. i was expecting to see a lot more people there. i seriously can't believe there were only like 50 people there, that seriously sucks cause they might never come back to NYC now lange spun a great set, i was totally feeling it from beg. to end i can't believe some of you guys actually got to hang out with lange on the roof top, that's so awesome. when dumonde came on, i was so excited cause i've never seen them live before and they def. did a great job. i went insane when they dropped see the light and tomorrow
i had a blast partying with you guys especially liz and for those of you who stayed til' closing, you guys are the best
oh yeah, where were you alyssa? i only saw you for a split second and you just disappeared, lol i can't believe i saw you in boston when tiesto spun there last month. girl, you're everywhere!!!!

Heh, I dont blame you one bit. And the reason for Lange having some mixing problems was the fact that he was using CDs. And the two Digital CD mixers were on total opposite ends of the table. So he had to run back and forth constantly. Plus they were bouncing on some cushion thing. Still not bad though for all those stipulations.

Not alot of promotion obviously. I was lucky cause I saw the ad for the event by chance online. Shelter = Place for Candy Ravers

Might I add that they lowered the speakers from time to time in the front so the people in the booth could hear each other when they really needed to talk. That could be the technical difficulties people thought the DJs had.
