Audioholics - External Key (Original Mix) [Electronic Elements]

What are your thoughts? Great progressive trance tune.

Posted by TOR on Jul-10-2004 16:01:

i wouldn't call it progressive, but you're right, amazing tune...

just because it's slower than your average supersaw trance tune, doesn't make it progressive trance.

listen to ATRC (Perry O'Neil Remix) and compare.

its not just about speed and I don't need to compre it to shitty oneil mix, there's things that makes it progressive and not uplifing and frankly you don't have a clue about the basis...and what the fuck "your" average supersaw trance tune suppose to mean? damn man you got some attitude

Posted by Zharen on Jul-11-2004 10:27:

Love this tune. Definitely on my top 5 list as to date. But I'm gonna agree with m0sh and consider this progressive trance at its best. I mean listen to a couple of Leama and Moor mixes. They have a similar style to this track and you don't see anyone else arguing that their stuff isn't progressive trance. Alright, said what I had to say.

9/10

so everything that's not uplifting trance is automatically progressive? interesting logic...

listen to the melody. melodic trance, easily.

same goes for Leama & Moor.

Posted by m0sh on Jul-11-2004 15:27:

don't come up with names of genres...

there's uplifiting , epic , tech , hard , tribal , deep and progressive

melodic = epic
and its not
so keep your bullshit somewhere else.

do you even know what trace means? seems like u don't.

you should know that every trance is melodic...thats the whole point, trance has layers and stuff like that and im not going to explain it right now.

so you say that e.o.s perry oneil remix is progressive trance while this isn't?
rightttt

people use epic trance as a synonym of uplifting trance (the supersaw stuff), which is a part of melodic trance. this term refers to tracks that have a main melodic sequence that sort of defines the track. this applies to External Key.

LSG - Rising does not have a melody. so you're saying that's not trance?

my example was his remix of As the Rush Comes. i'm not familiar with his EOS remix, so i don't know if it's progressive trance or not.

bullcrap , melody can be a main thing or a small thing and i've yet to hear rising but im sure it has kind of melody because trance has melody in every TRANCE TUNE

Posted by Rising on Jul-11-2004 16:06:

amazing tune!!..

reminds me of probspot.. which is totally progressive trance..

good to see you have the capabilities to know something about a track before you've even heard it.

i must admit though, that it has some sort of melody.. bad example i gave there...

but for instance Intruder by Mike & Armin, which is tech-trance in my book, doesn't have a melody.

Uhh yes, all trance has some sort of melody. Even hard trance has melody, and it might even be an epic one... but if it's hard, then it's hard. For example, Tulips & Chocolate...

Anyway, yes, I would consider External Key prog trance, not because the BPM is slow but because the melodic approach is laidback with a progressive feel. Even if a progressive song is played at a faster BPM (like External Key was in ASOT 138 XXL), you can easily tell it's progressive trance and not uplifting/epic.

Well, anyway, that's that. I don't think arguing should screw up this thread on this great song. =\

The vocals add such a great touch to the song. Even though I originally didn't like this, it did catch me, and it's a good thing to get caught by. ;-)

Posted by noikeee on Jul-12-2004 09:06:

definitely a good track.

and i would call it progressive trance as well, maybe on the uplifting side of progressive trance though

Awesome ch00n. Great atmosphere and a nice lead that reminds me of the classic Airwave productions.
